Vios ABS Lateral Sensor Issue

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2009 Toyota Vios (gasoline engine). The ABS lamp lights up intermittently, leading to ABS system failure and an error code related to the lateral acceleration sensor being stored. I suspect the affected control unit might be defective. Has anyone else encountered this? I’ve run a diagnostic scan and confirmed the error. The car has 78022 km on the clock, and I am trying to understand if this is a common issue or not.

Wow, that sounds familiar! I drive a Vios too, and I had a similar ABS problem not too long ago. Was it only the ABS or were there other lights on the dashboard?

Thanks for the quick response! Besides the ABS light, there weren't any other warning lights illuminated. Do you recall what the diagnostic scan reported in your case?

Okay, in my case it was exactly the same symptoms, and indeed also the lateral sensor. My mechanic pinpointed it to the electronic control unit. I suggest you take it to a workshop to have it checked. That's what I did.

Following your advice, I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be exactly as suspected: the lateral acceleration sensor control unit. Repair cost me around 1000€. Thanks for sharing your experience; it saved me a lot of time!
