Vios fuel flap issue

I'm having trouble with my 2005 Toyota Vios with a gasoline engine. The fuel flap release stopped working. I'm getting an error, and I can't lock or unlock the fuel filler flap. Some other functions seem unavailable now. Could this be a defective linkage, if my model even has one? Has anyone else run into this?

I feel your pain. I've got a Vios myself. I had a similar headache with my fuel filler a while back. It refused to open! Turns out, for me, it was a faulty lock actuator – the little electric motor that moves the pin to lock and unlock the fuel door. Have you checked that?

Thanks! The lock actuator... that's a good point. How do I check the actuator? Is there a way to test it without taking everything apart? Also, could an electrical fault somewhere else trigger this, or is it almost certainly the actuator itself?

I'm not too sure how to properly test it. I poked around a little bit, but ended up taking it to a trusted workshop. They diagnosed and replaced it in a couple of hours. If the error is what you say, and the fuel door won't budge, then it might be time to visit your local workshop.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's reassuring to know someone else has dealt with this. I'll take your advice and get it checked by a professional. Just got it back: the fuel flap lock actuator was indeed faulty. Cost me around 210€ to get it sorted, but at least it's working again. Thanks!
