Vios Gear Shift Indicator Failure

My 2023 Toyota Vios (gasoline engine, 147151 km) has a gear shift indicator problem. Sometimes I can't engage gears, the automatic transmission shifts erratically, the gearbox slips and shifts uncleanly, and I hear grinding during gear changes. There's an error stored, and the gear selection display in the speedometer is dead. Control unit? Repair is estimated at 1000€, which seems high. Anyone else seen this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Vios. Is the gear indicator completely blank, or does it just show the wrong gear?

Yep, pretty much the same. Seems like the control unit is likely the culprit, as you suspected. Best to get it checked at a qualified workshop.
