Vios high fuel consumption starting issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota Vios with 106,095 km is experiencing high fuel consumption and starting issues. The problem may be related to the air intake or engine throttle, as these components can affect engine performance. A defective accelerator pedal module was identified as the cause, and after replacement, the vehicle's performance improved significantly.

Engine throttle, you say? How do I even check that? Is it something a newbie like me can handle, or am I better off taking it to a workshop? Maybe I should start with the accelerator pedal module?

Honestly, unless you're comfortable poking around, I'd suggest a workshop. In my case, it turned out to be a defective accelerator pedal module messing with the engine idle. Cost me around 205€ to get it sorted. Better safe than sorry, right?

Thanks a lot! Seems like that might be the problem. I'll take it to a shop and mention the accelerator pedal module. Hopefully, that's it. It was indeed! Defective accelerator pedal module, 205€! Runs great now!

Sounds familiar! I have a Vios too, and had similar problems a while back. High fuel consumption and poor starting are classic signs. Have you checked the engine throttle or the throttle position? For me, it was like trying to run with a clogged nose - the engine just couldn't breathe right!
