Vios oil pressure warning lamp

Hi, I'm having a worrisome issue with my 2020 Toyota Vios (gasoline engine). It has 121200 km on the clock. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and I'm hearing some really loud mechanical noises coming from the engine. I've checked the oil level, and it's fine. Could it be the oil pressure sensor or something worse?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Vios. Same symptoms – oil pressure light and engine noises. Have you checked the oil pressure gauge, if your car has one? Could also be the oil pump. What kind of oil are you using?

Thanks for the quick reply! I don't have an oil pressure gauge, unfortunately. I'm using the recommended oil, a 5W-30 synthetic blend. How did you resolve the issue? Was it indeed the oil pump?

Yes, it turned out to be a defective oil pump. The mechanical noises were probably the engine bearings not getting enough lubrication. I'd strongly suggest taking it to a workshop. Continuing to drive it like that might cause major engine damage.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right - it was the oil pump. The repair cost me 755€. Hopefully, that's the end of it, but thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
