Volt check engine light smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Chevy Volt hybrid is experiencing issues with the check engine light, reduced engine power, and smoke during acceleration. A potential cause suggested is a faulty PCV valve, which may be indicated by a whistling noise when idling. It is advised to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle, as the smoke could signify further damage, and addressing the PCV valve might resolve the problem.

Whistling, huh? I'll listen for that. Where exactly is the PCV valve located? Is it something I could check myself for obvious damage before taking it in?

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure where it is on the Volt, but it's usually connected to the crankcase ventilation system. Unless you're really comfortable poking around, I'd just take it to a shop. The smoke could mean other stuff is getting damaged. I ended up paying around 360€ for the repair, so it wasn't the end of the world.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I listened for the whistling, and I think I hear something. I'm going to take it to a mechanic and mention the PCV valve. Hopefully, it's a quick fix.

Sounds like the PCV valve. I had something similar happen on my Volt (can't remember the year). Check for any whistling noises when idling, that was a big clue for me. If it's that, definitely get it looked at, the smoke thing is worrying.
