Volvo C30 belt handover issue

Has anyone run into issues with the belt-handover mechanism on a 2009 Volvo C30 diesel with around 71000 km? I think there's a defect in the assembly itself.

I'm not super familiar with that mechanism, but could a failing idler pulley or worn serpentine belt cause this? Any excessive engine noise? Has the timing belt been checked recently?

Are you suggesting a bad idler pulley could specifically cause a belt-handover failure, or just general belt issues? Trying to pinpoint the cause.

Based on your expertise, inspecting the belt bringer/handover assembly itself, like you thought, is probably the best bet. Seems like the most likely culprit. I'd get it checked by a pro.

Confirmed, the defective belt bringer/handover was the problem. Repair cost 455€. Thanks for the help.
