Volvo S40 starting problem

My 2007 Volvo S40 diesel is having trouble starting. It occasionally stalls when idling, and the check engine light is on. The car has 22471 km on the odometer. Could this be a defective camshaft sensor?

The symptoms you describe mirror an issue I had with my Opel Astra. It turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor. Have you checked that as well?

I cannot recall the exact fault codes. Given the stalling and ignition timing issues, coupled with the check engine light, it is likely the encoder wheel on the camshafts is defective. I recommend a visit to a reputable workshop.

Thank you for the advice. After taking it to the workshop, it was indeed the camshaft sensor. The final repair bill was 695€. The garage confirmed the encoder wheel on camshafts was faulty.
