Volvo S40 Washer Fluid Warning Light Issue

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2001 Volvo S40 (gasoline engine). The 'washer fluid low' warning light is on, even though the reservoir is full. The windshield washer system isn't working, and there's an error stored. I've checked the fluid level multiple times, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I had a similar problem with my S40, although I can't remember what year mine is. Does the pump make any noise when you try to use the washers?

Good question! No, I don't hear any noise from the pump at all when I try to activate the windshield washers. Does that give you any more insight?

Yes, that sounds very familiar! If the pump isn't making any noise, it could be a dead pump or a clogged line, but in my case it turned out to be the pump motor itself. I recommend taking it to a workshop, they can diagnose it and replace it if necessary.
