Volvo V40 Audio Failure

I'm at my wit's end with the audio system in my 2016 Volvo V40 diesel! The whole thing is dead – no sound from the speakers whatsoever. The error memory is storing the fault. I've checked the obvious things, like fuses, but I suspect the display is defective. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

The 2016 Volvo V40 diesel experienced a complete audio system failure, with no sound from the speakers, despite the display functioning for other controls. Initial checks, such as fuses, were inconclusive, leading to suspicion of a defective display. Suggestions included checking for loose connections or a Bluetooth issue, but ultimately, a mechanic confirmed the display unit was faulty, requiring repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That sounds incredibly frustrating! When the audio cuts out, does the display itself still work? Can you still control other dashboard functions, like climate control, through it? If so, it might be something besides the entire display unit. Maybe a loose connection to the speakers or a Bluetooth problem affecting the audio output? Think of it like a garden hose – if the water's not coming out, is the tap broken, or is there a kink in the hose somewhere?

That's a very helpful analogy, thank you! Yes, the display works perfectly for everything else. I can adjust the climate control, navigate through menus – all the usual functions are fine. It's just the audio that's completely gone. So, if it's not the 'tap,' as you say, how would I check for a 'kink' in the audio 'hose' without dismantling half the car?

Okay, since the display functions are normal, it does sound less like a total display failure and more like an isolated audio issue. Given that the display is still working, poking around yourself could get messy. It's probably best to get it checked at a workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose whether it's a speaker problem, a faulty amplifier, or something else entirely. Best of luck!

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. You're right, I caved and took it to a local mechanic. Turns out the display unit was indeed faulty, as I originally suspected, even though some functions were still operational. The repair set me back 725€, but at least I have my music back! Thanks again for the advice.
