Volvo V50 ABS and Stability Control Errors

Hi, my 2011 Volvo V50 with a gasoline engine is throwing up some scary errors. The ABS lamp is constantly lit, the ABS system has totally failed, and I've got an error stored related to the lateral acceleration sensor. Mileage is only 29540 km. Is this a common issue? Could a defective control unit be the culprit? Very annoying!

Hey, I had something similar happen on my V50 too, though it was a while back. Is the stability control also affected? When mine went, the car felt really unstable in corners.

Yep, the electronic stability control is definitely compromised. I'm guessing it's all tied to that lateral sensor then? Did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you take it to a shop?

I had to take it to a shop. Turns out it was exactly as you suspected: a defective control unit, electronic control I believe. Safety warning, and expensive electronic stability, yaw rate and lateral sensor replacement. Honestly, unless you're really good with that kind of stuff, I wouldn't mess with it.

Thanks for the heads-up! It sounds like I'm facing a similar fate. I'll book it in with a trusted workshop for diagnosis and repair, prepare for a 1000€ bill. At least I know what to expect!
