Volvo V50 fuel level sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Volvo V50 with a gasoline engine exhibited issues such as the check engine light being on and occasional stalling at idle, with an error code indicating a fuel level sensor fault. Initial checks for a blown fuse and leaks were suggested, but the problem persisted regardless of fuel level. The likely cause was identified as a failing fuel level sensor, which was confirmed and replaced by a workshop, resolving the issue.

I'll check the fuse box. The stalling seems random, whether the tank is full or nearly empty. Any other ideas if the fuse is fine? Could the sensor itself be failing?

If the fuse is okay, then the sensor itself is the most likely problem. They can fail over time. Given the stalling and the error code, I'd recommend having it checked by a workshop. They can properly diagnose it and replace the sensor, which could save you trouble.

Thanks for the advice! It was the sensor! The workshop confirmed it and replaced it. Cost 52€ total. It runs great now.

A fuel level sensor issue could be a few things. Does your car have a separate fuse for the fuel level sensor? A blown fuse can cause problems. Also, how often does it stall? Is it only when the fuel is low, or does it happen regardless of the fuel level?
