Volvo V90 Reduced Engine Power Warning

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2017 Volvo V90 diesel. It's got 178828 km on the clock. I'm getting a 'Reduced engine power' warning light, and it's starting poorly. The lights are flickering, and the error memory mentions something about the generator. Could a faulty generator cause all these issues?

Sounds familiar. I've got a V90 too, and those symptoms scream generator problems. Any recent work done, or did this just pop up suddenly? Have you checked the serpentine belt that drives the generator?

No recent work, it did just pop up. I haven't checked the serpentine belt - I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, to be honest. What would a faulty belt look like? Or could it be the starter motor? What about voltage drop?

If the belt snapped, you'd know. Voltage drop could be many things but is a likely candidate. Given the symptoms and error code, I'd bet on the generator. Best get it to a workshop for proper diagnosis.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was the generator. Repair cost me 960€ Appreciate the help!
