Voyager Fuel Injector Woes: Fix for Rough Running Engine

Looking for help with my 2000 Chrysler Voyager. The engine performance has dropped significantly lately. Main issues include rough starting, increased fuel usage, and constant misfires. The engine also runs very uneven at idle and sometimes stalls completely. My mechanic suggested it might be faulty injectors but I would like to hear from others who had similar issues. Did you experience something comparable and how was it ultimately fixed? Especially interested in repair costs and whether replacing the injectors solved all symptoms. Thanks for any input on this.

I had a very similar issue with my 2002 Chrysler Town & Country about 6 months ago. Have some experience working on cars but mainly basic maintenance. The symptoms match exactly what I experienced, poor performance, rough idle, and increased fuel consumption. My initial concern was the injectors too, since these symptoms typically point to fuel delivery problems. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed clogged injection valves. They performed a thorough fuel injection cleaning service and replaced two faulty injectors. Total repair cost was 515€, including parts and labor. After the repair, the engine performance returned to normal and fuel economy improved significantly. Would be helpful to know: Current mileage on your Voyager? Have you noticed any check engine lights? When was your last fuel system service? What type of fuel do you typically use? This information could help determine if your issue is identical to what I experienced. Regular injection system maintenance is crucial for preventing these problems from recurring.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Voyager has 144292 KM on the odometer and does show a check engine light now. Just had regular service last month but no specific fuel system maintenance. The gasoline injector cleaning approach sounds promising given the similar symptoms. The misfire issues and fuel consumption are getting worse by the week. Good to hear your repair solved the problem without requiring a complete injector replacement set. Did you notice any black smoke from the exhaust before the repair? My emissions seem worse lately too, especially during cold starts. Also wondering if the workshop tested for vacuum leaks before proceeding with the injector work?

Those symptoms you mention, especially the black smoke and poor emissions during cold starts, sound exactly like what I experienced before getting the injection system repaired. My Chrysler also had black smoke issues, particularly before the engine warmed up. The workshop did a complete diagnostic including vacuum leak testing before touching the injectors. They found no vacuum leaks but detected significantly poor fuel atomization from the injectors. The black smoke was caused by unburned gasoline due to the clogged and failing injectors. With similar mileage to yours (mine was at 152000 KM), it is common for fuel injectors to develop deposits and wear that affect proper atomization. The reduced engine performance and increased emissions you describe are classic signs of injector problems. The repair resolved all these issues: No more black smoke, Emissions returned to normal, Better fuel economy, Smooth idle restored, Cold starts improved significantly Given your symptoms match mine so closely, I strongly recommend getting the injection system checked. The cleaning service plus replacing any faulty injectors should solve the problems without needing a full injector set replacement.

Thanks everyone for the detailed replies. After comparing all symptoms, I am now quite convinced the injection system is the culprit. The matching experiences with black smoke and cold start issues really helped confirm this. Just scheduled an appointment at my local workshop for next week. Asked them specifically to: Test for vacuum leaks first, Check injector spray patterns, Do a complete fuel system cleaning, Replace any faulty injectors found The 515€ cost range seems reasonable if it fixes all these engine performance issues. Will be monitoring the emissions and fuel consumption closely after the repair. The constant misfires and rough running are really affecting daily driving now, so hoping this solves everything like it did in your case. Thanks again for sharing the repair details and helping identify the likely cause. Having this information makes me more confident about the upcoming repair work.
