VW Amarok ABS Sensor Failure Disables Safety Systems

Having trouble with my 2021 VW Amarok Diesel (32299km). The ABS warning light stays on and the system is not working. A diagnostic scan shows a lateral sensor fault. Anyone dealt with something similar? Looking for advice on repair costs and whether this is a common issue before heading back to a mechanic. Traction control and electronic stability are also affected. Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and trusted repair shops.

Had the same issue on my 2018 VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI. The diagnostic scan revealed problems with the yaw rate sensor, which directly impacts the electronic stability and ABS systems. The steering angle sensor integration with the electronic control unit was compromised, affecting multiple safety systems simultaneously. This is actually a serious safety concern since it disables critical driving assistance features. The repair involved replacing the defective control unit and recalibrating the entire system. The lateral acceleration sensors needed proper initialization after the new unit was installed. This is not a common failure point on VW vehicles, but when it happens, it requires specialized diagnostic equipment and expertise. The fix is not a quick plug-and-play solution, the new control unit must be coded specifically to your vehicle and properly integrated with other systems. After repair, all affected systems including ABS, traction control, and electronic stability must be thoroughly tested to ensure proper function. Suggest having this addressed promptly since these systems are crucial for vehicle safety, especially in emergency maneuvers or adverse conditions.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the lateral sensor problem. My VW had the exact same symptoms, ABS light on, traction control issues and all safety systems going offline. Really helpful to know about the control unit replacement and recalibration process. Did any other issues surface after the fix? Also curious about the final repair cost if you dont mind sharing. My wheel alignment also seemed slightly off after everything was sorted, but that might be unrelated.

The lateral acceleration sensor fault was completely resolved after the control unit replacement. The total repair came to 1000€ including recalibration and diagnostic work. The electronic control unit was indeed defective, but once replaced, all safety systems returned to normal operation. The traction control and ABS now function perfectly. No additional issues have emerged in the months since the repair. The wheel alignment concern you mentioned is likely unrelated to the sensor system fix, but it is worth getting checked since proper wheel alignment affects overall vehicle stability and tire wear. All electronic stability features are now operating as designed, and the diagnostic system shows no remaining fault codes. The investment in fixing the control unit was necessary to restore these critical safety systems to proper working order.

Just got back from the mechanic after getting my Amarok fixed. The lateral sensor issue was resolved by replacing the control unit, just like in your case. Total bill came to 1200€ including parts and labor. The wheel alignment was indeed off so I had that adjusted too. All safety systems are back online and working properly now. The ABS light is finally off and vehicle stability control is functioning normally. The steering feels more precise after the alignment work. Really glad I got this sorted quickly since these safety features are essential. The mechanic confirmed this was a known but uncommon issue with the control unit. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with the diagnosis.
