VW Arteon Door Lock System Complete Failure Alert

Having trouble with door locking system on my 2020 VW Arteon (97000km, gas). Central locking stopped working completely, cant lock or unlock any doors. Suspect its either a door switch malfunction or faulty wiring harness since the car sensor light on dash keeps flashing. Last mechanic charged me 400€ for an unrelated repair that didnt solve anything. Anyone dealt with similar electrical issues on their Arteon? Looking for advice before visiting another shop.

I experienced similar door locking issues with my 2017 VW Passat. The constant flashing of the car sensor light pointed to a wiring harness problem, specifically where the cables run through the vehicle doors. The root cause turned out to be damaged wiring between the door sensor and the central locking control module. Years of door opening and closing had worn through the protective sleeve of the wiring harness, causing intermittent contact signal failures. The repair required: Complete inspection of door wiring harness in all doors, Replacement of damaged wire sections, Testing of all door sensor connections, Recalibration of central locking system This was a serious electrical issue that could have led to security vulnerabilities and potential battery drain. The problem progressively worsened over several weeks before complete failure. Given your symptoms, particularly the flashing dashboard light and complete system failure, it strongly suggests a similar wiring harness issue rather than just a faulty door switch. A specialized diagnostic scan would confirm the exact location of the fault in your electrical system. Since modern cars rely heavily on properly functioning door sensors and intact wiring, this requires attention from a shop with proper diagnostic equipment.

Thanks for your detailed response about the wiring harness problem. The symptoms do sound very similar to what I am experiencing with my Arteon, especially the warning light behavior. The automatic locks failing completely matches my situation too. Just wondering, how much did the complete repair end up costing you? Also, have you had any issues with the car alarm or door switch functionality since getting it fixed? I want to make sure I budget appropriately and know what to expect long-term before heading to the shop.

Had the repair done last week and I am glad to report the faulty door contact signal is completely resolved. The issue turned out to be much simpler than initially expected, just a loose cable connection at one of the door switches that was causing the electrical issue. Total cost was 95€ for fixing the compromised wiring connection. This was significantly less than anticipated based on my initial concerns about extensive door sensor or wiring harness damage. The vehicle doors are all functioning perfectly now with no warning lights or alarm issues. The key was finding a shop that properly diagnosed the root cause instead of jumping to major repairs. Since the fix, the central locking, car alarm, and all related systems have worked flawlessly. Would definitely recommend getting it checked soon though, as these electrical problems can sometimes worsen if left unaddressed. Good news is you likely wont need a complete wiring harness replacement like I originally thought. A thorough diagnostic should reveal if you have a similar connection issue.

Finally got my Arteon fixed today. Took it to a different mechanic who specializes in VW electrical systems. The door latch wiring was indeed the culprit, but thankfully it was just a damaged connector near the driver side door sensor that needed replacement. Total repair came to 180€ including diagnostic time. The car alarm and central locking are working perfectly now. All vehicle doors lock and unlock smoothly, and that annoying flashing light on the dash is finally gone. Such a relief after dealing with this for weeks and spending 400€ at the first shop for no results. Really appreciate the feedback about checking the wiring harness, it helped me explain the issue better to the new mechanic. For anyone else facing similar problems, definitely get a proper diagnostic done by someone who knows these systems well. Sometimes the fix is simpler than expected.
