VW Arteon Misfires & Jerks During Acceleration

My check engine light recently came on and the car jerks during acceleration. Could feel the engine misfiring and running rough. Already had a scan done showing error codes, but my last mechanic experience was awful so looking for advice. Any ideas what this could be? Possibly spark plugs or fuel injectors? Drive a 2023 VW Arteon gas engine with 136338km. Would really appreciate hearing about similar experiences and trusted repair shop recommendations.

Had similar symptoms with my 2020 VW Passat. The rough idle and jerking during acceleration pointed to ignition system issues. After diagnostic testing, it turned out multiple ignition coils had failed, causing misfires across different cylinders. The symptoms match your description, especially the rough running and hesitation during acceleration. While spark plugs can cause these issues, failing ignition coils are a common problem on these engines. The oxygen sensor readings were also off due to the incomplete combustion. This requires proper diagnosis since similar symptoms could come from: Faulty ignition coils, Worn spark plugs, Clogged air filter, Crankshaft sensor malfunction In my case, replacing the ignition coils and spark plugs resolved the issue completely. Not a serious repair in terms of engine damage, but definitely needs attention soon to prevent catalytic converter damage from the misfires. Important to note that parts quality matters significantly here. Using OEM or high-quality aftermarket parts is crucial for lasting results. Regarding your request for shop recommendations, that type of advice should be sought through local owner groups or dealer service departments.

Thanks for the detailed insight into the ignition coil and spark plug issues. My Arteon showed those exact same symptoms with the engine misfire and rough idle. After replacing the coils and spark plugs, everything runs perfectly again. Could you remind me what the total repair cost was in your case? Just wondering if prices have changed much. Also curious if you have experienced any other issues since the repair was done?

Thanks for the follow-up. The ignition system repair fixed my Passat completely, not a single misfire or rough idle since then. Actually just had it serviced last week for an unrelated exhaust leak which cost 265€ to fix. Looking back at the original ignition coil repair, prices have definitely increased since then. Mine included replacing all ignition coils, spark plugs, and cleaning the air filter. The crankshaft sensor was also tested but turned out to be fine. The engine now runs smoothly during acceleration with no jerking or hesitation. Really shows how important it is to address these symptoms quickly before they cause more extensive damage to other engine components. The way you described your successful repair matches exactly what happened with mine, replacing those failing ignition components resolved all the uneven engine running issues completely.

Glad I took action on this quickly. After reading about your experience, I took my Arteon to a certified shop last week. The mechanic confirmed multiple failing ignition coils causing the engine misfire. Total bill came to 485€ for replacing all coils, spark plugs and labor. What a difference now, no more jerking or rough idle during acceleration. The engine runs perfectly smooth. Much better experience than my last repair shop nightmare. The mechanic even showed me the worn components and explained everything clearly. Really appreciate your help pointing me in the right direction. Saved me from potentially bigger issues with the fuel injectors or timing belt down the road. Will definitely keep an eye out for any similar symptoms in the future.
