VW Arteon Oil Pressure Warning Signals Engine Trouble

My 2017 VW Arteon is showing the oil pressure warning light alongside the check engine light. During my last oil change, I noticed the oil color was unusually dark and had some metal particles in it. The engine seems to be running rough, especially when cold. Could this indicate serious engine damage? Has anyone dealt with similar oil pressure warnings on their Arteon? I want to understand what the likely causes are before taking it to a workshop. What were your repair costs and which components needed replacement? The issue started about a week ago and gets worse during longer drives.

As someone with some car maintenance experience, I dealt with a similar issue on my 2015 VW Passat last year. The symptoms you describe strongly suggest oil contamination and possible oil pressure problems. When my engine oil turned dark with metal particles, it was due to exceeding the recommended oil change interval. The workshop found significant oil sludge buildup, which was restricting proper oil flow and causing increased engine wear. The fix involved: Complete engine oil flush, New oil filter replacement, Fresh engine oil, Thorough system cleaning to remove sludge Total cost was 165€ for the complete service. Your symptoms sound nearly identical, but to provide more specific advice, please share: Current mileage, Last oil change date, Type of engine oil currently used, Service history details, Any unusual sounds or vibrations Regular oil changes are crucial, metal particles in the oil often indicate internal engine wear. The combination of oil pressure and check engine warnings suggests this needs immediate attention to prevent more serious engine damage. Based on experience, postponing the repair could lead to much more expensive engine repairs down the line.

I have the same car with 69295km. After my most recent oil change, I noticed the leak near the oil filter housing is getting worse. The engine oil seems to be dripping more frequently after longer drives. The mechanic mentioned possible worn gaskets but I am concerned there might be other issues causing the oil leak. My warning lights started appearing shortly after. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and found an effective fix? The repair estimate I received seems quite high at 450€ for diagnostics and potential gasket replacement.

Based on my experience with the same issue on my Passat, oil leaks near the filter housing often connect directly to oil pressure problems. When I had the leak, it turned out the oil filter housing gasket had degraded, allowing engine oil to seep out during temperature changes. The leak caused my oil pressure to drop gradually, triggering those same warning lights. Left unchecked, low oil pressure can lead to severe engine damage through insufficient lubrication. The metal particles you mentioned earlier, combined with this leak, suggests the engine may already be experiencing increased wear. My repair involved: Replacing the oil filter housing gasket, Installing new seals, Oil pressure sensor replacement, Fresh engine oil change The 450€ estimate sounds reasonable considering the diagnostic work needed. My total repairs came to 380€, but prices vary based on parts availability and labor rates. If you are noticing increased oil consumption or the leak is getting worse, I strongly recommend addressing this promptly. Using oil additives might temporarily help with pressure, but they wont fix the underlying leak causing the oil pressure issues. It is worth checking if the oil filter was properly torqued during your last service, as overtightening can damage the housing and cause similar symptoms.

Thanks for the additional details. Just had my car checked due to similar symptoms and it all made sense once fixed. The initial 450€ estimate actually saved me money in the long run. The mechanic found that my oil filter housing was indeed cracked, not just the gasket being worn. They ended up having to replace the entire housing assembly along with multiple seals. When they did the oil change, they noticed significant oil contamination throughout the system, explaining the metal particles I had seen. My total repair costs: Oil filter housing replacement: 280€, New seals and gaskets: 95€, Engine oil and filter change: 85€, System cleaning to remove sludge: 120€, Labor: 220€ Total came to 800€, which was more than the initial estimate but worth it to prevent further engine damage. The warning lights cleared immediately after repair and the engine runs much smoother now, especially during cold starts. Will definitely stick to a stricter oil change schedule going forward. The mechanic showed me how the oil sludge had started building up, which contributed to the increased engine wear and oil pressure problems.
