Thanks for sharing your experience. Mine is also at the workshop now, and they just called to confirm its indeed the sun visor motor that failed. My mileage is 92667km and the car blind started making grinding noises about a week before it completely stopped working. The error code stored was B138400 which points directly to the sunshade motor malfunction. The dealer quoted 380€ for the complete car sunshade repair including parts and labor. Seems like these sun protection systems are a common failure point in VWs. Good to hear your repair has held up well. Going to proceed with the fix since summer is approaching and that UV protection is essential for the leather interior.

Thanks for the update on your Arteon sunshade repair situation. Those grinding noises are exactly what I experienced before my sun blind motor failed too. The 380€ quote is pretty close to what I paid, just slightly higher than my 330€ repair cost. The mileage point is interesting, my sun visor motor failed around 89000km, quite close to your reading. This might suggest a typical lifespan for these UV protection mechanisms in our VW models. One tip based on my experience: after the repair, make sure to use the sunblind regularly. I noticed that extended periods without use seem to put more stress on the mechanism when you do need it. Also, keeping the tracks clean helps prevent premature wear on the new motor. Been about 8 months since my repair now, and the sunshade system continues to work perfectly. The investment was worth it, especially considering how effective these built-in car blinds are for interior protection compared to aftermarket alternatives.

Thanks for all the information. The grinding noise seems to be the telltale sign of impending motor failure in these VW sunshade systems. Interesting that both our cars experienced issues around 90000km. Will definitely follow your advice about regular use of the sun blind once its fixed. Got confirmation from the workshop, theyll start the repair tomorrow. The 380€ price tag stings a bit, but like you said, its worth it for proper UV protection of the interior. These built-in sun visor systems are much better than aftermarket solutions. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. Its reassuring to know the repair should last, especially with the maintenance tips you provided about keeping the tracks clean and using the car sunshade regularly. Will pick up the car tomorrow and hopefully can put this interior accessory issue behind me.

I dealt with a similar sun blind issue on my 2018 VW Passat last summer. Being somewhat experienced with VW electrical systems, I first tried the basic troubleshooting but quickly realized the sunshade repair needed professional attention. The motor of the sunblind was completely defective in my case. The workshop diagnosed it using their diagnostic tool and confirmed the motor had failed, not the control module. They had to remove several interior trim pieces to access the sunshade mechanism. The total repair cost was 330€, which included labor and the replacement motor unit. The repair took about 2 hours to complete. Since then, the sun visor mechanism has worked flawlessly. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you noticed any unusual noises when trying to operate the sunblind? Does the window visor make any attempt to move at all? What error code is stored in your system? Has there been any water exposure to the car interior recently? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my car.
