Thanks for sharing your experience. My Caddy is at 130878km and was last serviced 2 months ago. No speaker crackle or static noise before the system failed. My dashboard controls are completely dead when trying to adjust volume or switch audio sources. The error message reads CODE:U112233 AUDIO_SYS_ERROR. Other dashboard functions work perfectly fine. Unfortunately, my warranty just expired last month. Before heading to a workshop, wondering if anyone knows whether these symptoms typically point to a display unit issue like yours or if it could be something else?

Thanks for those details. Your symptoms sound nearly identical to what I experienced with my Touran, same error message pattern and complete audio system failure without any prior warning signs. From my case and discussions with the workshop technicians, when the audio system fails completely with no prior sound issues and shows that specific error code, it typically indicates a main unit malfunction rather than individual speaker or wiring problems. The diagnostic pattern matches, fully unresponsive volume control through dashboard controls but other vehicle systems working normally. After my repair, I learned these audio system failures often stem from software corruption or electronic component issues in the display module itself. The workshop mentioned they see this fault pattern regularly across several VW models. Since your vehicle is out of warranty, you might be looking at similar repair costs to what I encountered (around 725€). However, I would recommend: Get the exact error code documented, Have a certified workshop run a full diagnostic on the Bluetooth system and audio components, Request an itemized estimate before proceeding, Ask if any software updates are available for your infotainment system The audio quality and functionality have been perfect since my repair, so while expensive, the fix was worthwhile for a permanent solution.

The information provided matches my issue exactly. After reading about these head unit problems, I will take it to a certified workshop for diagnosis. The faulty wiring seems less likely since there were no warning signs like speaker crackle or Bluetooth problems before the complete failure. Going to document the error code and request a full diagnostic report, hoping the repair costs stay around 725€. At least knowing others have experienced and resolved the same volume control and system errors makes me more confident about getting it properly fixed rather than trying cheaper alternatives that might not work. Will update once I get the workshop diagnosis and confirm if it is indeed the display unit causing these audio system failures. Thanks for the detailed advice and sharing your repair experience.

Having a similar experience with my 2020 VW Touran last winter. The sound system completely died, with unresponsive dashboard controls and error messages on the display. After some basic troubleshooting attempts, it became clear this was beyond simple fixes. Took it to a certified workshop where they diagnosed a defective display unit affecting the entire infotainment system. The issue was causing problems with the volume control and car speakers throughout. They had to replace the main display module and reconfigure the system settings. Total repair cost was 725€, including parts and labor. The fix took about 4 hours, but the sound system has worked flawlessly since then. Could you share: The exact error message showing up? Whether your car speakers make any sound at all? If there was any speaker crackle before the system died? Whether other dashboard functions still work normally? Is the vehicle still under warranty? This information would help determine if your issue is similar and whether you might be looking at a comparable repair solution.
