VW Caddy Sunroof System Freezes: Control Failure Fix

Having trouble with my 2022 VW Caddy sunroof operation. The sunblind keeps freezing in position and wont move either way. I suspect its a sunroof initialization error since the entire sunroof mechanism stopped working suddenly. Both the blind and the sunroof glass are completely unresponsive to controls. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their VW sunroof control system? Really interested in hearing what the fix was and what the repair shop found. Also wondering if theres a specific reset procedure that might help before taking it to a workshop.

Having some experience with VW vehicles, I encountered a similar sunroof troubleshooting issue on my 2020 VW Golf. The automobile sunroof system completely stopped responding, including both the glass panel and sunblind. After attempting basic fixes like checking fuses, I took it to a workshop. The diagnosis revealed the car sunroof needed recalibration due to a control module error. The technician performed a sunroof calibration and coding reset, which resolved the issue. The repair cost was 75€ for the diagnostic and coding work. For your Caddy, this sounds very similar to what I experienced. However, to provide more specific guidance, could you share: Have you noticed any unusual noises before the system stopped working? Does the control module show any error messages? Has there been any recent battery disconnection or electrical work? Have you checked if water has gotten into the sunroof drainage channels? These details would help determine if your vehicle sunroof requires a simple reset or more extensive repairs. While waiting for a workshop appointment, avoid forcing the controls as this could cause additional damage to the mechanism.

My Caddy was last serviced 3 months ago at 33530km. The sunroof made no unusual sounds before stopping. The control module doesnt show any error messages on the dash. No recent electrical work or battery disconnection either. I did notice some water marks near the headliner after heavy rain last week, so the drainage channels might be worth checking. Starting to think I should skip DIY sunroof reset attempts and take it straight to a workshop rather than risk damaging the mechanism further.

Thanks for those extra details about your Caddy. The water marks you mentioned near the headliner definitely raise a red flag. When I had my Golf serviced for the sunroof system issue, the technician explained that clogged drainage channels often cause electrical problems with the sunroof mechanism. My vehicle sunroof showed similar symptoms, complete failure without warning signs. The water intrusion in your case suggests blocked drainage channels might have allowed moisture to affect the sunroof control module or wiring. Your instinct about skipping DIY repairs is spot on. After my experience, I learned that modern sunroof troubleshooting really needs professional diagnostic equipment, especially for the recalibration process. The workshop found that moisture had corroded some connections in my sunroof operation system, requiring both cleaning and recalibration. In my case, they also cleared the drainage channels as preventive maintenance. The total repair ended up around 180€, including the drainage cleaning. Given the similarities in our situations, I would expect comparable work needed on your Caddy. Remember to mention the water marks to the technician, this detail helped diagnose my issue faster and might save you some diagnostic time and costs.

Thanks for all the input about VW sunroof issues. The water marks issue and your experience with drainage channels helped convince me to book a workshop appointment for next week. Better to have it properly diagnosed than risk more damage trying DIY fixes on the sunroof mechanism. Looking at a potential 180€ repair bill isnt great, but its probably worth it to get the sunroof operation back to normal and prevent future water damage. Will make sure to point out those water marks to help speed up the diagnostic process. Really helpful to hear from someone who dealt with such a similar sunroof control problem on their VW.
