VW Caddy Washer System Failure, Motor Not Responding

My 2014 VW Caddy is showing a stored error related to the wiper system. When pressing the washer control, nothing happens, no wiper fluid comes out and the warning light stays on, even though the tank is full. The washer motor seems silent when activated. Already had some questionable repairs at my mechanic before, so I want to gather some opinions before going back. Car has 98155km and runs on gasoline. Has anyone experienced something similar? What was the actual issue and the repair cost in your case?

Had a similar issue on my 2011 VW Golf TSI. The windshield cleaning system failed completely despite having proper fluid level in the reservoir. The dashboard light kept showing the warning even after refilling. The root cause turned out to be pretty straightforward, the washer pump had failed due to mineral buildup from using poor quality washer fluid. This is a common problem in these VW models. The pump was completely seized and needed replacement along with a thorough cleaning of the fluid lines. The wiper system repair was not particularly complex, but required removing the front bumper cover to access the pump assembly. While doing this work, the technician also found and cleared a clogged filter screen that was restricting flow. A quick way to diagnose: If you cant hear the pump motor running when activating the washers, its likely the pump rather than a clog or electrical issue. These pumps typically last 7-10 years before failing. This is not a serious mechanical issue but should be fixed promptly since proper windshield cleaning is essential for safe driving. The warning light will remain active until the pump is replaced and the system is working correctly.

Had this exact problem last year with my Caddy. The washer motor was completely dead, no sound, no fluid spraying despite having a full tank. Your symptoms match perfectly with what I experienced. The fix was pretty straightforward, they replaced the washer motor and cleaned out the fluid lines since they were partially blocked with debris. The windshield cleaning system has worked flawlessly since then with no warning lights showing up on the dashboard. How much did your repair end up costing? My bill came to around 180€ including parts and labor. Have you noticed any other issues with the wiper system since getting it fixed?

Thanks for asking about the repair cost. Got my Golf TSI back from the shop yesterday after they fixed the washer fluid warning issue. The total came to just 25€, which was mainly for diagnosing and fixing the low wiper fluid level, much cheaper than expected. Since the repair, the warning light has completely disappeared and the spray jets are working perfectly. The windshield washer system is now functioning as it should, with good fluid pressure and no issues. Unlike your case, I was lucky that my pump didnt need replacement, which explains the lower cost. The mechanic found that the wiper system sensor was giving false readings due to mineral deposits around it. A thorough cleaning solved the problem. No other issues have surfaced with any part of the washer fluid system since the fix.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Finally went to get it checked yesterday. The mechanic confirmed my washer motor had failed completely, similar to what others experienced. The repair took about an hour. They replaced the washer motor, flushed all the spray jets, and cleaned the entire system. Total cost was 210€ which seems fair given the parts and labor involved. The windshield cleaning system now works perfectly, strong spray from all jets and no more warning lights. The mechanic mentioned they found some debris blocking the lines, likely from using cheap washer fluid. Will definitely use better quality fluid going forward. Much better experience this time compared to my previous visits. The technician actually showed me the failed pump and explained everything clearly. Good to have this fixed before winter arrives.
