VW Crafter GPS Dead: Antenna vs Module Diagnosis Guide

My vehicle GPS just quit working and the car stored a related error code. The navigation system shows no GPS signal at all. Could this be a faulty GPS antenna or GPS module? The car is a 2022 VW Crafter Electric with about 198000KM. Had some questionable repairs done lately, so looking for advice before heading back to a shop. Anyone dealt with similar car navigation issues on these models? What was the actual problem and repair cost?

Had the same signal interference issue on my 2022 VW ID.4 Electric. GPS module completely lost satellite connection while driving, triggering navigation system errors. After diagnostic testing, it turned out the GPS antenna was physically damaged, likely from automatic car wash brushes or environmental exposure. The antenna repair required complete replacement since the internal components were corroded. The main symptoms matched yours exactly, total GPS signal loss and persistent error codes. On VW models, the antenna is typically mounted on the roof, making it vulnerable to external damage. The repair was straightforward but required specialized tools to access and replace the module. This is generally a serious issue that needs professional attention since the GPS module connects to multiple vehicle systems. A faulty antenna can also affect other functions like emergency calling services. Vehicle GPS problems can sometimes be misdiagnosed as software issues, but when there is zero signal, its typically hardware-related. Would recommend having a certified technician check the antenna connections and module integrity before attempting any repairs. The repair resolved all navigation issues and restored full GPS functionality. No recurring problems since the replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am dealing with the same car navigation problem on my Crafter right now, zero GPS signal and error codes popping up. Good to know the antenna repair fixed it completely for you. Would you remember the total cost for parts and labor? Also curious if any other electrical gremlins showed up after getting the GPS antenna replaced? Just trying to budget properly before heading to the shop since these navigation system repairs can get expensive. My local dealer quoted me 800€ just for diagnostic testing.

After getting the GPS antenna replaced on my ID.4, the total repair cost was 200€ including parts and labor. The car electronics have worked flawlessly since the repair, with no additional issues appearing. The satellite connection is now consistently strong and the navigation system performs perfectly. That 800€ diagnostic quote seems extremely high. Most shops can quickly verify GPS antenna problems using basic testing equipment. A certified technician should be able to confirm the issue within an hour of diagnostic work. The GPS module repair completely resolved the satellite connection problems and no other electrical issues have emerged in the months since. The navigation system maintains a solid signal even in challenging conditions now. For reference, the antenna repair included a new OEM GPS antenna unit plus the labor to properly route and connect all components. If your symptoms match what I experienced, you likely have the same antenna issue and should expect similar repair costs around 200€.

I finally got my GPS signal problems sorted out on the Crafter. Went to an independent VW specialist who diagnosed it for 80€ rather than the dealers 800€ quote. Turned out you were spot on, the GPS antenna was damaged, probably from our last hailstorm. The car electronics testing showed the GPS module itself was fine, just needed a new antenna to restore the satellite connection. Total repair came to 230€ including parts and labor. The vehicle GPS is working perfectly now, maintains strong signal and the error codes are gone. Navigation system is back to normal with accurate positioning. No other electrical issues have shown up since the repair was done last week. Really glad I asked here first and avoided overpaying for diagnostics. The whole car GPS system is functioning exactly like it should now. Much cheaper fix than I expected after that initial dealer quote. Good to have proper navigation working again, especially since I rely on it daily for work routes.
