VW Crafter Trans Failure: Warning Signs & Solutions

Last service was done at 48000KM and my mileage is currently 54300KM. The transmission sensor warning just started after that service interval. I am concerned that my mechanic might have not filled the transmission oil properly during the last service. Experiencing similar symptoms you had with low oil level and pressure warnings. Already booked an appointment at a different workshop next week to check the transmission oil level and do a complete diagnostic scan. Will update once I know more.

Thanks for the update on your VW Crafter. Your suspicion about improper oil filling during the service makes sense given the timeline. My experience with almost identical symptoms on my Transporter points strongly toward a transmission oil level issue affecting the pressure readings. The transmission oil pressure sensor typically throws these warnings when the fluid level is incorrect, rather than the sensor itself being faulty. When my transmission sensor fault appeared, it was directly linked to low fluid causing incorrect pressure readings. Some key points from my experience: The warning appeared around 5000-6000km after service, Transmission fault codes cleared after proper oil level adjustment, No mechanical damage occurred since we caught it early Good move booking with a different workshop. Make sure they: Check transmission oil level while the fluid is at operating temperature, Verify pressure sensor readings with proper diagnostic equipment, Look for any signs of oil leaks The fact your symptoms started right after service strengthens the case for an oil level issue rather than a failing sensor or internal transmission problem. Still, getting a complete diagnostic scan will confirm this.

Going to collect my VW Crafter tomorrow. The service advisor called and confirmed our suspicions about the transmission oil level being the root cause. Apparently the previous workshop didnt fill it to the correct level during service, causing the transmission sensor fault and warning lights. They will perform: Complete transmission oil level correction, System pressure check, Clear all transmission fault codes, Test drive to verify proper shifting Total quoted cost is 295€ which seems reasonable compared to your repair. Really glad it wasnt a major transmission issue or failed pressure sensor. Good thing I caught this early before any transmission damage occurred. Will report back on how it drives after the fix, but feeling optimistic since your similar case was resolved successfully with proper oil level adjustment.

I had a very similar issue with my 2015 VW Transporter, also with the automatic transmission. The symptoms were nearly identical, transmission warning light, limp mode, and rough shifting. Initially, I was also concerned about a transmission sensor fault, but when I took it to the workshop, they diagnosed a low transmission oil level causing incorrect pressure readings. The oil pressure sensor was giving false readings because of this. The fix involved: Complete transmission oil level check, Topping up the transmission fluid, Clearing the transmission fault codes, Test drive to confirm proper operation Total cost was 365€ including parts and labor. Since the repair, the transmission has been shifting smoothly with no warning lights. To help diagnose your case more accurately, could you provide: Current mileage, When was the last transmission service, Any previous transmission-related repairs, Exact error codes from the diagnostic scan The symptoms you describe are very similar to what I experienced, but transmission faults can have multiple causes. Getting this additional information would help determine if you are dealing with the same issue or if there might be a different underlying problem.
