Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds pretty identical to my situation, including those troublesome transmission warning lights. Just curious, what did you end up paying for the whole repair job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the temperature sensor was replaced? My transmission issues really have me worried, and while 850€ is a lot, its better than needing a complete gearbox sensor replacement or worse, a new automatic transmission.

Got the repair done last week and can report that everything is working perfectly now. The transmission shifts smoothly again with no warning lights since the faulty transmission oil temperature sensor was replaced. The final cost came to 365€, which included fixing a low gearbox oil level they discovered during inspection. This was actually much less than your quoted 850€. The transmission repair went quicker than expected since the sensor was the only component that needed replacement. The mechanic explained that transmission issues often start with sensor problems before developing into more serious mechanical damage. Getting it fixed early likely prevented more extensive transmission repairs down the line. If your symptoms match what I experienced, the temperature sensor replacement should resolve the problem. Just make sure they check the transmission oil level while they're at it, proper fluid levels are crucial for preventing future transmission issues.

I took my Crafter to the shop yesterday after reading these responses. It was definitely the transmission oil temperature sensor causing all the trouble. The mechanic showed me the old sensor, it was completely shot. The total repair came to 780€, which included: New temperature sensor, Fresh transmission oil, Labor costs, Full diagnostic scan The automatic transmission is now shifting perfectly again, no more grinding or warning lights. The mechanic also checked the gearbox sensor and overall transmission condition while they had it apart, confirming everything else looks good. Bit less than the original quote of 850€, so I am relieved. The whole job took about 4 hours. Worth every cent to have the transmission working properly again and avoid more serious damage. Will definitely pay more attention to transmission warning signs in the future.

Recently faced similar transmission issues with my 2020 VW Transporter TDI. The symptoms match exactly, rough shifting, grinding sounds and transmission warning lights, plus the automatic transmission went into limp mode. Initially suspected low transmission fluid, but the real culprit was indeed a faulty transmission temperature sensor. The sensor was sending incorrect readings to the transmission control unit, causing erratic shifting patterns and eventually triggering the emergency mode to prevent damage. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan to confirm the temperature sensor malfunction, Removing transmission oil pan to access the sensor, Replacing the transmission sensor unit, Installing new transmission fluid and filter, Performing transmission adaptation procedure This was a serious issue that required immediate attention, as continuing to drive could have caused permanent transmission damage. The symptoms you describe strongly indicate a temperature sensor problem rather than mechanical transmission issues. The good news is that replacing the sensor itself is not as complex as rebuilding the entire transmission. Would still recommend getting a second opinion from a transmission specialist who can properly diagnose with specialized diagnostic equipment.
