VW Cruise Control Dead: Throttle Position Sensor Alert

My cruise control stopped working recently. The dashboard light for cruise control turns on but wont engage, and the error memory shows a fault. Driving a 2019 VW Suran Spacefox gasoline with 112976km. Had similar repairs before but got overcharged. Anyone experience this issue and can recommend what the likely problem is before I head to the shop? Could it be throttle position related?

Had the same issue on my 2016 VW Golf TSI. The cruise control symptoms matched exactly, dashboard light illuminated but system refused to engage. The problem turned out to be a faulty speed sensor connection. The mechanic found corroded wiring between the speed sensor and the control module. This sensor feeds critical data to multiple systems including the cruise control. Common culprits for these symptoms are: Loose or corroded speed sensor wiring, Blown fuse in the cruise control circuit, Brake light switch malfunction, Damaged throttle position sensor The repair involved cleaning the connector pins and replacing a section of damaged wiring harness. Not a major mechanical issue, but requires proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact fault location. Worth checking the fuse box first, there should be a specific fuse for cruise control functions. A blown fuse would be the simplest fix. If the fuse is good, best to have a professional check those sensor connections with proper tools since improper repairs can affect other systems.

Thanks for that detailed response about the speed sensor issue. Mine does sound very similar. I already checked the fuse box and all fuses seem intact, so I suspect it might be the wiring too. Just curious, what did the repair end up costing you? And has your cruise control been working properly since the fix? My steering wheel buttons still click normally when I try to engage it, which makes me think the wiring connection theory could be right. Hoping to avoid getting overcharged again at the shop.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since having the speed sensor connection repaired, my cruise control has worked flawlessly. The clicking steering wheel buttons were exactly what I experienced too, the problem was definitely in the wiring, not the switches. The total repair cost was 95€, which included diagnosing and fixing a loose connection between the speed sensor and its plug. Much more reasonable than some quotes I got. The clock spring and cruise control mechanisms in the steering wheel were all fine, it was just that faulty wiring causing the system to drop out. Really glad I got it sorted properly rather than trying temporary fixes. These sensor issues can be tricky to diagnose but once fixed properly, they tend to stay fixed. The cruise control now engages smoothly every time I use it.

Just got back from the mechanic after reading the helpful replies here. The diagnosis confirmed it was exactly what was suggested, corroded wiring at the speed sensor connection. Glad I knew what to expect going in. The repair took about an hour and cost 110€, which seems fair compared to previous overcharges. The mechanic cleaned the connector pins and replaced a small section of damaged wiring near the speed sensor. The cruise control now works perfectly again. The pedal switch and other components checked out fine. Really appreciate the advice about the wiring issue, saved me from getting unnecessary parts replaced. Will definitely keep an eye on those sensor connections in the future to catch any corrosion early. Now I can finally use cruise control again on longer drives without any warning lights or engagement problems. Thanks for helping me avoid another expensive misdiagnosis.
