VW Eos MOST Bus Failure Kills Audio and Navigation

My Eos audio system and nav completely died on me, seems like a possible MOST bus failure. Car worked fine until last week, now theres zero sound output and the navigation is totally dead. Already checked the error memory which confirms theres an issue. Not really trusting my previous mechanic after a bad experience, so looking for advice on diagnosis and repair. Anyone dealt with similar car electronics problems on a 2009 VW Eos (gas engine, 128000km)? Mainly interested in hearing about repair costs and trusted shops that know how to handle car diagnostics for these systems properly.

Had nearly identical symptoms on my 2012 VW CC TSI. The automotive protocol failure in the MOST bus network caused complete audio system blackout and navigation freeze. The root cause was a defective fiber optic ring break in the bus system that connects multiple control units. The optical cable had deteriorated over time, disrupting signal transmission between components. This is actually a known weak point in the infotainment architecture. Car diagnostics revealed the exact location of the break using specialized testing equipment. The repair required replacing a section of the fiber optic cable and reprogramming the affected control modules to restore proper communication across the bus network. This was definitely a serious issue requiring specialized knowledge. Regular mechanics often lack the diagnostic tools and expertise for MOST bus failures. Would strongly recommend finding a shop with certified experience in VW entertainment systems and bus protocols. The fix is permanent once done correctly. Been running without issues for 2 years since the repair. Just make sure whoever works on it understands fiber optic diagnostics and VW-specific bus system architecture.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the MOST bus repair. That matches what I went through with my Eos last spring. The data transmission issues with the fiber optics were nearly identical. Have you had any other car electronics problems pop up since getting it fixed? And if you dont mind sharing, what did the repair end up costing you? Mine came to around 850€ for the complete fix including parts and labor, but prices seem to vary quite a bit depending on the exact issue with the bus network.

Good news to report, absolutely no issues with the MOST bus or audio system since getting it repaired. The control unit replacement completely solved the fiber optics communication problems I was experiencing. Total cost came to 1000€, which covered both the new control unit and the labor for installing it properly into the bus system. The specialized car diagnostics equipment they used confirmed all the data transmission issues were resolved across the MOST bus network. While the repair price was significant, having a properly functioning audio system and navigation is worth it. The shop really knew their way around automotive protocols and bus systems, which made a huge difference in getting it fixed right the first time. From what you mentioned about your 850€ repair cost, seems like the pricing is fairly consistent for these types of control unit failures in the MOST bus architecture. The important thing is having it done by technicians who understand these complex car electronics systems.

Great experience dealing with that MOST bus failure, just got back from the shop yesterday after the complete repair. After testing several places, I found a specialist who really knew their way around car electronics and bus network systems. They properly diagnosed the fiber optic break using their advanced car diagnostics equipment. The repair took about 4 hours total. They had to replace part of the optical cable and reprogram multiple control units to restore proper communication. Cost came to 850€ which actually seems reasonable given the specialized work involved. Everything is working perfectly now, full audio system functionality and navigation are back online. The car diagnostics readout shows clean communication across all control units on the MOST bus. Definitely learned my lesson about finding shops with proper expertise in these complex automotive systems rather than trying to save money with general mechanics who lack the right diagnostic tools.
