VW EOS problems with misfiring for some time now

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my 2014 VW Eos (gasoline, 96,543 km). Symptoms: black smoke from the exhaust under acceleration, check engine light, loss of power, rough engine, jerking under acceleration, won't start, poor fuel economy, stalling at idle, and shuddering at idle. Could the ignition coil be defective or misfiring? Had a bad experience at the mechanic last time. Has anyone had similar problems and tips for a good mechanic? Thank you!

Summary of the thread

A 2014 VW Eos is experiencing issues such as black smoke, loss of power, and rough engine performance, potentially due to a defective ignition coil or misfiring. A similar case with a 2011 VW Golf was resolved by replacing the engine control unit, which eliminated the symptoms. The suggested solution is to have the engine control unit, ignition coil, and spark plugs checked and possibly replaced by a reliable mechanic. After addressing these components, the vehicle should run smoothly again.

Hey, had the same problem with my 2011 VW Golf. Black smoke, loss of power and the check engine light were also present on mine. My engine control unit was defective. I had to have the control unit replaced and then had no more problems. It was a really serious matter, because without the replacement the engine ran very erratically and the car often didn't start at all. I would advise you to have it checked by a trustworthy mechanic. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the info! Do you remember how much you paid to replace the engine control unit? And has anything else come up since the replacement? Thanks again!

Hey, sure, I can tell you. After I had the engine control unit replaced, it cost me about €1000. Since then, my car has been running perfectly again. The mechanic also fixed the faulty ignition coil and the misfiring. No more problems since then - the engine is purring like a kitten again. Hope this helps you! LG

Hey, thanks for the info! So, I went to the mechanic after all, although I was a bit skeptical. As it turned out, it was indeed the engine control unit - just like yours. The mechanic also checked the ignition coil and the spark plugs and said that they also needed to be replaced. All in all, it cost me just under €1200, but since then my VW has been running great again. No more jerks and the engine purrs like new again. I'm really relieved that it's now working again. Thanks again for your help! LG
