Thanks for sharing your Scirocco experience. Just had the thermal window system fixed on my Eos last month. After reading your description, definitely sounds like the same issue. The repair shop also found multiple electrical problems beyond just the dead heating coil in the rear defroster. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Mine came to around 650€ including parts and labor, but prices seem to vary quite a bit. Also curious if youve had any other heating issues pop up since the repair?

Thanks for asking about the costs. Actually got a pretty good deal since the main issue was just the battery being heavily discharged, which affected the whole auto defrost system. Total repair came to 290€ including parts and labor. The mechanic fixed the rear window heating problem completely, the thermal window system has been working flawlessly since then. No other heating issues have appeared in the past months. The window demister functions perfectly now, both front and back. The repair shop did a thorough check of all electrical connections while they had the car, which probably helped prevent any follow-up problems. Good to hear your Eos is fixed now too, though sounds like you had more extensive electrical issues to deal with, which explains the higher repair cost. These VW heating systems can be tricky, but once properly repaired they usually stay reliable for years.

Just got back from the repair shop and wanted to update everyone. The window heater problems on my Eos turned out exactly as suspected, multiple electrical issues affecting both the front and rear defroster systems. Paid 650€ for the complete fix, which included replacing several damaged components and rewiring some connections. The thermal window system is working perfectly now. Shop did a complete diagnostic scan which helped identify all the failing parts at once. Glad I didnt try any DIY fixes, the auto defrost problem was more complex than it initially seemed. Really appreciate the advice about going to a certified shop. They knew exactly what to look for and fixed everything in one go. For anyone else facing similar issues, definitely worth getting it checked by professionals who understand these VW electrical systems.

Had the same problem on a 2010 VW Scirocco last winter. The rear window demister and front defrost system completely stopped working. Error code pointed to electrical issues, turned out the heating coil in the rear window was damaged and there was a faulty connection in the main heating system. This is actually a serious electrical issue that needs proper diagnosis. When my car defrost system failed, the workshop found the battery was severely discharged, which caused a chain reaction affecting multiple heating elements. They had to test the entire electrical system, replace the battery, and repair several connections to restore proper function. The rear window heating elements are particularly sensitive in VW models from this era. Recommend taking it to a certified VW workshop, they have the right diagnostic tools to properly identify if its a simple heating element failure or a more complex electrical system problem. These symptoms typically dont resolve themselves and can worsen if left unchecked. Based on the similarities between your Eos and my experience, sounds like you might be dealing with the same underlying electrical problem. Its not something that can be fixed with basic tools or DIY solutions.
