Thanks for sharing those details about your Polo repair. Sounds exactly like what I am experiencing with my Fox. It gives me some confidence knowing others have successfully resolved similar suspension system malfunctions. Did you remember roughly how much the total repair cost? Also curious if you had any recurring suspension components issues since the fix? My local shop quoted me a pretty high price so trying to get a sense if it is reasonable. Getting more concerned as my compressor failure symptoms seem to be getting worse each day. The air leaks are definitely more noticeable now especially on cold mornings.

After taking my Polo to a certified shop, the total repair cost was surprisingly reasonable at 95€. The issue turned out to be a faulty cable connection at the compressor, much simpler than initially feared. Once they fixed the electrical connection, the air suspension compressor started working perfectly again. In the 18 months since the repair, the suspension system has performed flawlessly with no recurring issues. The load leveling works as intended, and all warning lights cleared up immediately after the fix. It sounds like your Fox might have a similar electrical malfunction rather than a complete compressor failure. Your mechanic might be quoting for a full compressor replacement, which would explain the high price. Suggest having them specifically check the electrical connections and plugs first. Often the root cause is a simple connection issue causing the compressor to appear failed when it is actually fine. Remember that continuing to drive with air struts not functioning properly can lead to more expensive repairs down the line. The 95€ I spent on the electrical fix was well worth preventing further damage to the suspension components.

I finally got my Fox fixed last week and wanted to share my repair experience. After checking several shops, I found one specializing in air suspension systems. The mechanic immediately spotted corroded wiring near the compressor, matching what others described. The suspension pump was actually fine, just not getting proper power due to damaged connections. Total repair came to 120€ including: New wiring harness, Connector replacement, Full system diagnostic, Height sensor calibration The air struts now maintain proper pressure and the car sits perfectly level. Warning lights are gone and headlights align correctly again. Huge relief that it was an electrical issue rather than complete suspension component failure. Really glad I got it checked when I did. The mechanic showed me how the corroded wiring could have eventually damaged the compressor if left unfixed. Going to have the suspension system inspected regularly now to prevent future issues. Appreciate all the helpful advice here that helped me understand the problem and get it properly diagnosed and repaired.

Had a similar issue on my 2010 VW Polo TDI at 52000km. The ride height variation pointed to both a failing air suspension compressor and damaged electrical connections. Main symptoms matched yours: uneven ride height, system unable to perform load leveling, and warning lights. The suspension system diagnostic revealed corroded plug connections at the height sensors. Additionally, the compressor showed signs of moisture damage. The fix required: Complete electrical harness inspection, Replacement of damaged connector pins, New compressor installation, System reset and calibration, Height sensor recalibration This was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. The air leaks were causing the compressor to run constantly before failing completely. Would recommend having it checked soon, as continuing to drive with faulty air suspension can damage other components. Most VW models from that era share similar suspension system architecture, so these issues are fairly common. Getting this fixed at a certified shop with proper diagnostic tools is crucial for a lasting repair.
