VW Fox Oil Pressure Warning Light Needs Diagnosis

Having issues with my 2008 VW Fox diesel and could use advice. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps coming on, along with a warning light in the speedometer cluster. When scanned, it shows stored error codes. My oil temp sensor might be the culprit since the car diagnostics point in that direction, but I want to be sure before replacing parts. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and can share what the actual problem was? Mainly interested in confirmed fixes and workshop experiences to avoid unnecessary repairs. The car runs but these warnings are concerning.

I had a very similar issue with my 2006 VW Polo diesel. As someone with moderate experience working on cars, I first thought it was just a faulty oil gauge reading, but it turned out to be more complex. The car sensor warnings you describe match exactly what I experienced. After some initial attempts to fix it myself, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed the problem using professional car diagnostics equipment. The issue was traced to a damaged cable connection at the temperature sensor plug, which was causing intermittent false readings. The repair involved replacing the wiring connector and ensuring proper contact with the engine temperature sensor. Total cost was 95€, which included diagnostic time and parts. The warning lights disappeared immediately after the fix and haven't returned since. Before suggesting specific solutions, could you provide: Has the oil level been checked recently? Are there any unusual engine noises? Does the warning appear more frequently when the engine is cold or hot? Have you noticed any oil leaks? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different.

Current mileage: 57981km, last service done in October. Thanks for the detailed response. I checked the oil level recently and its fine, no leaks visible either. The engine runs smoothly with no unusual sounds. The warning appears mostly when the engine is warm, about 15-20 minutes into driving. Your experience with the temp sensor connector is particularly interesting since my automotive sensor readings show similar erratic behavior. I might have the electrical connections checked first before replacing the entire engine sensor assembly. The intermittent nature of the warnings matches your description exactly. Would taking photos of the temperature sensor connector area help identify if I have the same wiring issue? Just want to be thorough before scheduling workshop time.

Thanks for providing those details. The symptoms youre describing strengthen my initial suspicion about the sensor connection issue. Since you mention the warnings appear after 15-20 minutes of driving, this matches perfectly with what I experienced, the false readings typically occurred once the engine temperature reached normal operating range. The fact that your oil level is good and theres no unusual engine noise is a positive sign. In my case, taking photos helped the workshop identify the problem area faster. Focus on capturing the temp sensor connector and surrounding wiring harness area. Look specifically for any discoloration or corrosion on the connector pins. When I had this issue, I noticed the car diagnostics would sometimes show normal readings, then suddenly jump to extreme values. This erratic behavior is typically a clear sign of electrical connection problems rather than a faulty oil temperature sensor itself. Given your mileage and service history, Id recommend having the wiring checked first. The connector repair on my VW was significantly cheaper than replacing the entire sensor assembly, and it completely resolved the intermittent warning lights. Would you be able to check if theres any visible damage or corrosion on the sensor connector pins? This was a telling sign in my case.

I appreciate all this detailed feedback about the sensor connections. After checking the connector area as suggested, I can see some slight discoloration on two of the pins, which matches what you described. I took several clear photos focusing on the automotive sensor assembly and the surrounding wiring harness. The car diagnostics are definitely showing those same erratic jumps in readings you mentioned, normal values one minute, then extreme the next. This seems to confirm the connection issue rather than a complete oil temperature sensor failure. Based on this discussion, I will schedule a workshop visit specifically to check the wiring and connector. Will make sure to show them the photos and mention the similar case you described with the connector repair. This approach makes more sense than immediately replacing the entire car sensor unit. Thanks for helping narrow down the likely cause. Will update once the workshop checks the connections and completes any needed repairs.
