Thanks for sharing your experience. Im dealing with similar symptoms on my VW Golf right now. The suspension system is showing the same warning lights and uneven stance you mentioned. Your detailed breakdown helps a lot, especially about checking for air leaks and damaged suspension components. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the total repair cost was for your car? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other suspension pump issues?

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. The repair cost ended up being much lower than expected, just 95€ to fix a faulty cable connection to the suspension pump. Initially thought it would need extensive repairs like my previous post suggested, but the mechanic found it was simply a loose connection causing the air suspension compressor malfunction. The air struts and other suspension components were actually in good condition. Once the cable was properly secured, the load leveling system started working perfectly again. The warning lights disappeared immediately and the car returned to normal ride height. Been about 6 months since the repair and the suspension system has worked flawlessly. No more uneven stance or air leaks. The suspension pump kicks in normally when needed. Really glad it turned out to be a simple fix rather than requiring a complete system overhaul. Would definitely recommend getting it checked soon though, even minor issues with air suspension can lead to uneven wear on other components if left too long.

After getting that helpful advice, I finally took my Golf to a different mechanic who specializes in VW air suspension systems. The diagnosis showed my issue was more serious than just a loose cable, turned out the main compressor had failed and there were significant air leaks in two of the struts. Total repair bill came to 780€ including: New suspension pump unit, Replacement of two air struts, Fresh air lines, Labor costs The work took two full days but the results were worth it. The car now sits perfectly level again and all warning lights are gone. The mechanic also showed me the worn components and explained how the system works, which was helpful. Really appreciate the advice from everyone here. Was nervous about trying a new shop but they did great work. The suspension is working perfectly now and the ride quality is actually better than before the issues started.

Had the exact same issue on my 2013 VW Passat TDI. The symptoms match what you describe, uneven ride height and warning lights. Initially thought it was just a compressor failure, but diagnostic tests revealed multiple problems with the suspension components. The air suspension system needed a complete overhaul. Main issues found were: Failed suspension pump unit, Damaged air lines, Faulty load leveling sensors, Corroded electrical connections Basic checks you can do: 1. Listen for air leaks around the struts 2. Check if the compressor runs at all when starting the car 3. Look for obvious damage to air lines 4. Inspect mounting points for rust or damage This is definitely not a DIY repair. The air suspension system requires specialized diagnostic equipment and expertise. A proper repair involves testing the entire system, not just replacing individual parts. Given the age and mileage of your Golf, these issues are fairly common. Would strongly recommend finding a shop that specializes in VW air suspension systems. The complete repair took 3 days in my case and was quite extensive.
