VW Golf Headlight Switch Malfunction Fix Needed

Having trouble with my 2023 VW Golf Hybrid (81000km). The headlight switch seems faulty as my lights keep turning on by themselves. The car also stores lighting-related error codes. Had a bad experience with my usual mechanic last time, so looking for recommendations on where to get this electrical problem fixed properly. Has anyone dealt with similar automotive switch issues on newer Golfs? Really want to avoid getting overcharged for a simple fix at the dealer.

Had similar headlight switch problems on my 2020 VW Passat GTE Hybrid at 75000km. The dashboard lights and tail lights started acting up intermittently before the main headlight switch failed completely. The root cause was a corroded connector in the lighting control module near the fuse box, not the switch itself. Poor sealing allowed moisture to reach the connections. This is a known weak point on several VW models from that generation. The fix required: Removing the steering column cover, Cleaning all connector pins, Replacing the main connector block, Resetting the lighting control module This is not a quick DIY job since accessing the components requires special tools and diagnostic equipment to properly reset the system. The lighting control module is integrated with other safety systems, so proper repair procedures must be followed. While not the most expensive repair, the technical complexity means it should be handled by a shop with VW electrical diagnostic equipment. Look for workshops specializing in VW electrical systems rather than general mechanics, as correct diagnosis is crucial here.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the VW lighting system problems. My dimmer switch started giving similar trouble around 85000km, glad to see this is a somewhat common issue that can be fixed properly. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working fine with your car lighting since they fixed the corroded connector, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks?

Took my car to a certified shop last week and the faulty light switch issue got sorted quickly. They found a loose cable connection near the lighting control module that was causing the unusual activation. Total repair cost came to 95€, which covered both diagnosis and fixing the connection. Since the automotive switch repair, all car lighting functions are working perfectly, no more unusual activations or error codes. The electrical problem turned out simpler than expected, just needed someone who knew where to look in the fuse box area. Worth getting it checked by specialists who understand these VW electrical systems properly. Makes daily driving much less stressful now that the lights stay off when they should. Good value considering the relatively minor fix needed versus what could have been a complete switch replacement.

I recently took my Golf to an electrical specialist shop after reading the helpful advice here. The dimmer switch and headlight problems were exactly as described, unusual activations driving me crazy! The technician found the same corroded connector issue near the lighting control module. They cleaned all connections, replaced the connector block, and reset the system. The whole job took about 2 hours. Total cost was 180€, more than your repair but still reasonable considering they also updated the lighting control software. Pretty happy with the service and my dashboard lights are all working normally again. No more unusual activations or error codes showing up. Really glad I avoided the dealer and found a proper electrical specialist. The automotive switch system in these VWs needs someone who knows what they are doing. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this lighting issue.
