VW Golf Keyless Entry Failure: Door Sensor Alert

My 2023 VW Golf Hybrid has suddenly stopped responding to keyless entry. The door mechanism seems unresponsive when trying to unlock with the key fob present. The dashboard shows an error message, suggesting a possible door switch malfunction. The locking system worked perfectly until yesterday. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their keyless access? If so, what was diagnosed as the root cause? Would be particularly helpful to know if it was related to the door handle electronics or sensor issues, and what repairs were needed to resolve it. Looking for guidance before booking a workshop appointment to ensure they can focus on the likely problem areas. Any insights on repair time and common fixes would be appreciated.

I had a very similar door electronics issue with my 2021 VW Passat Hybrid last winter, and I have some experience with these keyless entry problems. The symptoms match exactly what I encountered, unresponsive door actuator and error messages on the dash. The main issue turned out to be a wiring fault in the door sensor connection. The door electronics were fine, but the cable connecting to the door actuator had developed a fault due to repeated opening and closing. The repair involved replacing a section of the wiring harness and checking all door sensor connections. Total repair time was about 2 hours and cost 95€ for parts and labor. The workshop diagnosed it quickly as these wiring issues are fairly common in the VW door electronics systems. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you noticed any intermittent operation before complete failure? Does the issue affect all doors or just one specific door? Are there any other electrical symptoms, like inconsistent central locking? Is the key fob battery definitely good? These details would help determine if your car has the same underlying cause or if its something else in the keyless access system.

Thanks for the detailed information about wiring faults. Since my last service was only 2 weeks ago at 67000km, this is quite unexpected. The electric door system fails only on the driver side. Other doors still respond normally to the keyless access. No intermittent issues before, it just stopped working completely yesterday. The car door sensor seems active since the dashboard still shows open/closed status correctly. The key fob battery is new, and the remote central locking works fine when using the button on the fob. I checked the door mechanism visually but cant spot any obvious damage to the exterior sensor or handle. Could moisture have affected the door electronics? The locking system on the passenger side still works perfectly which makes me think its isolated to the driver door components. Will try booking the repair based on your input about the wiring harness.

Thanks for the additional details about your driver-side door issue. After experiencing the same problem on my VW, the symptoms you describe strongly suggest a localized wiring fault rather than moisture damage. In my case, the isolated failure on a single door with functioning dashboard indicators also pointed to a break in the door handle wiring harness. The door switch and sensors typically continue working even when the keyless access fails, which matches your situation exactly. Having dealt with this particular door mechanism problem, I can confirm that the passenger side staying functional is a typical pattern. The driver door wiring experiences much more stress due to frequent use, often failing before other doors show any issues. Based on the same repair I had done, you should expect: Diagnostic check focusing on door handle electronics circuit, Wiring harness inspection at the door hinge area, Possible replacement of the affected wiring section, System recalibration after repair The repair cost should be similar to what I paid (around 95€) unless additional components need replacement. Since your car is newer than mine was when the issue occurred, the warranty might still cover it, worth checking before booking.

The single driver door issue and your experience with the wiring harness definitely helps narrow down the problem. After hearing similar issues and repair experiences, Im more confident its a wiring fault rather than a moisture or electronic door component failure. The locking system works perfectly on other doors and the door switch still reports status correctly, which matches the pattern you described. Im relieved the door actuator and handle electronics may not need complete replacement. Ill book the appointment and ask them to check the wiring harness specifically, focusing on the driver door mechanism where the keyless access has failed. The 2-hour repair time and 95€ cost estimate gives me a good baseline for what to expect. Since my Golf is still under warranty, Ill definitely check coverage first. The service records showing recent maintenance should help document this is a new fault rather than ongoing wear. Thanks for sharing your repair experience, it helps avoid wasting time testing the key fob or other components when the wiring is the likely culprit. Ill update once the workshop diagnoses the exact issue with the door electronics.
