VW Golf TDI Brake Booster Sensor Issues & Safety Alert

Last service was done at 132000km and now facing the exact same symptoms being reported. The brake fluid level is fine and no visible leaks around any brake components. The pedal feels consistently soft regardless of engine temperature. Already checked brake fluid level, its at max. The brake booster pressure sensor might indeed be the culprit, as replacement parts for this component have reportedly fixed similar issues. The mushy brake pedal combined with ABS warnings definitely points to a brake system problem that needs professional diagnosis. After speaking with several Golf owners who had similar brake performance issues, it seems systematic bleeding is crucial. Will schedule a proper inspection to ensure all safety systems are functioning correctly.

Thanks for those additional details. My Passat actually showed those exact same symptoms before getting it fixed. I can tell you from experience that proper brake system diagnosis is key, as the ABS system warnings combined with that mushy brake pedal feel can be tricky to diagnose correctly. When my brake booster pressure sensor eventually failed, it created similar symptoms. But here is something interesting, the workshop found that the sensor failure was actually a secondary issue. The primary problem was a small leak in the brake booster vacuum line that slowly degraded the sensor over time. The total repair included: Complete brake system diagnosis, Brake booster pressure sensor replacement, Vacuum line repair, Full system bleeding Total cost came to 320€ and solved all issues. The brake pedal feel returned to normal, and the ABS system warnings cleared permanently. Given your mileage and symptoms match what I experienced, I would strongly suggest having both the brake booster and its pressure sensor checked as a complete system. The diagnostic tools can sometimes show sensor failure when the real issue lies elsewhere in the brake circuit.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. The matching symptoms with other cases is really helpful. Brake performance issues can be complex, so gathering real experiences helps narrow down the problem. Based on feedback, I will have the complete brake system inspected, including the brake booster and sensor assembly. The ABS system warnings combined with the consistent pedal feel issue regardless of temperature strongly suggests a system-level problem rather than just a single faulty component. Will schedule service next week and request: Full brake system diagnostic scan, Brake booster pressure sensor testing, Vacuum line inspection, Professional brake bleeding The brake system is too critical for temporary fixes or guesswork. Better to invest in proper diagnosis and replacement parts now than risk compromised vehicle safety. Will update once the actual cause is identified and fixed. This has been really informative, especially learning how seemingly simple brake issues can have underlying causes that only proper diagnostic tools can reveal. Thanks for sharing your similar repair experiences.

As someone with moderate experience in car maintenance, I encountered a similar issue with my 2019 VW Passat TDI. The brake system symptoms matched yours exactly, mushy pedal feel and ABS warning lights. Initially tried basic troubleshooting with diagnostic tools, but the real problem was discovered at the workshop. Turned out the brake system was bled incorrectly during routine maintenance, causing air pockets in the brake lines. This affected overall brake performance and triggered the ABS system warnings. The fix involved a proper brake system bleeding procedure using professional equipment. Total cost was 90€ for the complete service. After the repair, brake pedal firmness returned to normal and the ABS warning disappeared. For your situation, could you share: When was your last brake service performed? Are you noticing any brake fluid leaks? Does the pedal feel worse when the engine is cold or warm? Have you checked the brake fluid level? These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced. Given that vehicle safety is the top priority, I recommend having a professional inspect the brake system soon, especially if the ABS warning persists.
