VW Golf: MKL lights up constantly and radiator fan runs permanently

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my VW Golf. The engine control light (ECL) is constantly on and as soon as I start the engine, the radiator fans at the front are permanently running at full power. According to the fault memory, the signal from the coolant temperature sensor is implausible. It also indicates an error with the ABS main valve. Does anyone have any idea what exactly the problem could be and how I can fix it?

The issues you're experiencing could be due to a faulty coolant temperature sensor or a problem with the ABS main valve. I'd suggest starting with the coolant temperature sensor. Try replacing it and see if the ECL turns off and the radiator fans return to normal operation. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you may need to have the ABS main valve inspected by a professional mechanic, as this is a more complex component to diagnose and repair. Please update us on your progress. Do you have any other questions?

Is the ABS valve connected to the sensor?

The ABS main valve and the coolant temperature sensor are not directly connected. They are separate components of your car's system. The ABS main valve is part of your car's braking system, while the coolant temperature sensor is part of the engine cooling system. However, both can trigger the engine control light if they malfunction. If replacing the coolant temperature sensor doesn't resolve your issue, I recommend having your ABS main valve checked by a professional. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Hello, I have now had the temperature sensor replaced. Unfortunately, the next day the fans started turning again and the MKL also started up again... The garage doesn't know what it could be and just deleted the error...

Hello Kxvin, I recommend you to drive for around 200 kms distance and get your vehicle diagnose for the fault codes. If the error persists then take your vehicle to a professional mechanic. Do you have any other questions? Please keep us updated on your progress. Best regards, CarlyAdminNik.

Hello, as I currently drive relatively long distances, I quickly reached 200km. I have now been to another (better) garage, but in the end they only replaced the sensors again... even though I mentioned that they had already done this. What else I could imagine is that there might be something wrong with the wiring or something... Lg Kevin

It's possible that there could be an issue with the wiring or connectors related to the coolant temperature sensor. I recommend checking the wiring harness for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Pay special attention to the connectors and the wiring leading to the sensor. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, a professional mechanic should be able to perform a thorough inspection. Please let us know how it goes or if you have any further questions.
