Thanks for the detailed response. Mileage is currently at 117398km since my last service 3 weeks ago. When pressing the release button, there is a faint click but no movement at the fuel door. The central locking works fine on all doors. I checked the fuse panel and the fuel door fuse appears intact. The cable release mechanism seems completely unresponsive, suggesting it could be the electric actuator like in your case. Did your workshop mention any temporary solutions to access the fuel door while waiting for repairs? Currently running low on fuel and need to figure out an immediate solution before getting it properly fixed.

Thanks for those details. Given the symptoms and mileage you described, it sounds nearly identical to what I experienced with my Passat. The clicking sound without movement typically confirms an electrical fault in the actuator rather than a purely mechanical issue. My fuel flap also made that faint click before completely failing. For immediate access, the workshop showed me a manual override that worked temporarily: Remove the trunk side panel trim, Locate the release mechanism cable behind it, Pull the emergency release cable gently This temporary fix got me through until the repair appointment. Just be careful not to damage the cable while using this method. The combination of working central locks but failed fuel filler release mechanism strongly points to the actuator. In my case, the electrical connections had corroded over time, causing intermittent issues before complete failure. Since your vehicle is slightly newer than mine but showing the same symptoms, you might want to have the entire release system checked. The electric actuator often fails around the 100000-120000km mark on these models.

The symptoms you describe match my situation perfectly. Really appreciate the detailed explanation about the manual override, that will definitely help me get by until I can schedule the repair. Good to know about the typical failure point around my current mileage. The corrosion issue with electrical connections makes sense given the clicking sound I hear. The lock actuator replacement cost you mentioned seems reasonable compared to what I was worried it might be. Will try accessing the emergency release cable through the trunk panel later today. Hopefully I can get the fuel flap open without damaging anything. Will schedule an appointment to get the electrical fault fixed properly next week. Thanks again for sharing your experience. The specific details about the repair process and costs really helped put my mind at ease about getting this sorted out.

Had the exact same problem with my 2012 VW Passat Hybrid. I have some experience working on cars but this one required professional help. The fuel door release mechanism completely stopped responding. The electric actuator failed and the linkage was defective, causing the entire fuel filler system to malfunction. Had similar symptoms, no response from the release button or key fob. Took it to the workshop where they diagnosed an electrical fault in the release system. They had to replace the actuator and adjust the linkage mechanism. Total repair cost was 210€ including parts and labor. The fix took about 2 hours and has worked flawlessly since then. Could you share: Current mileage on your Jetta? Any unusual sounds when pressing the release button? Does the central locking system work normally? Have you checked the fuse for the fuel door system? This info would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced. These systems are similar across VW hybrids from that era.
