Thanks for the info. Just had my service done at 118309km and mentioned this issue. My problem is affecting only the driver side door handle. The error code P1B01 shows up consistently, regardless of weather conditions. After checking your wiring suggestion, I did notice some exposed wires near the door hinge area, which might explain the sensor issue. The service center initially wanted to replace the entire door electronics unit, but based on your experience, I will ask them to inspect the wiring first. Much rather pay for a simple wire repair than a complete locking system replacement. Will update once I get it checked properly. Thanks for confirming it might be a straightforward fix.

Thanks for the update on your Jetta door handle situation. The exposed wires you found near the hinge are a classic trouble spot, exactly where my Passat had issues too. The constant door movement really takes a toll on those wiring connections over time. The P1B01 code specifically points to the door actuator communication circuit, which aligns with what I experienced. Since its isolated to your drivers side, that makes a wiring issue even more likely than a complete door handle electronics failure. Getting the wiring repaired saved me significant money compared to a full door actuator replacement. Make sure the shop checks the entire wire run from the door handle to the main locking system control unit. In my case, they also applied some extra protective sleeve around the repaired section to prevent future wear. Good call pushing back on replacing the whole unit right away. If the fix is similar to mine, you could be looking at under 100€ rather than several hundred for a new door handle assembly. Let us know how the wiring inspection turns out. Other owners should watch for similar symptoms in their keyless access systems, especially as these models age.

Thanks for helping me track this down. I just got back from the shop and wanted to provide an update on my keyless entry problem. The door handle wiring was indeed the culprit, just as you suggested. The technician found significant wear in the wire harness near the hinge, with several wires showing exposed copper. The door electronics were receiving inconsistent signals due to this damaged wiring. They repaired the wiring harness and added extra protection against future wear. Total cost came to 85€ including labor, which was a huge relief compared to the 450€ quote for a complete door mechanism replacement. The door switch now responds perfectly to the key fob, and the error code has cleared. Really glad I asked about the wiring before agreeing to replace the entire door handle assembly. The sensor issue was exactly what you described, just worn wiring causing communication problems. Thanks again for steering me toward the simpler fix. Will definitely keep an eye on the wiring condition during future services.

Had exactly this locking system problem with my 2014 VW Passat Hybrid last winter. Having some experience with electrical car issues, I first thought it was the key fob battery, but that wasnt the problem. The door mechanism started acting up out of nowhere, sometimes working and sometimes not responding at all. The workshop found a wiring fault in the door handle sensor connection. Apparently, the cable connection had deteriorated over time, causing intermittent electric door failures. The fix involved replacing a section of the wiring harness and recalibrating the door sensors. Total repair cost was 95€, mostly labor since the wiring repair was relatively straightforward once properly diagnosed. What I learned: These keyless systems are quite sensitive to any disruption in the wiring. The good news is that its often fixable without replacing the entire locking system. To better assist with your specific case: Have you noticed if all doors are affected or just one? Does the issue happen more frequently in wet weather? What error code is showing exactly? These details would help determine if youre dealing with the same sensor issue I had or something different.
