VW Nivus Stalling: Fuel Tank Sensor Troubles Exposed

Having issues with my 2023 VW Nivus that might be related to a faulty sensor in the fuel tank. The check engine light is on and the engine keeps stalling at idle. Already checked the error memory which shows a sensor fault. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms with their Nivus? Particularly interested in hearing about repair solutions and workshop experiences. What was the actual cause in your case and how was it resolved? Would help me narrow down the problem before heading to the shop.

I had a very similar issue with my 2021 VW T-Cross, which shares many fuel system components with the Nivus. The symptoms were identical, check engine light and stalling issues. The fuel gauge was also showing inconsistent readings. After taking it to a workshop, they diagnosed a blown fuse connected to the fuel sensor circuit. The fuel sensor itself was functioning correctly, but the electrical connection was compromised due to the faulty fuse. Total repair cost was 52€, mainly covering diagnostic time and fuse replacement. The fix was relatively straightforward once properly diagnosed. The workshop replaced the fuse and cleared the error codes. Been running perfectly since then, with no more stalling or sensor issues. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Current mileage on your Nivus, When did the symptoms first appear, Are you getting any specific error codes, Have you noticed any unusual behavior with your fuel gauge readings This information would help determine if your car electronics are experiencing the same issue or if its potentially something else in the fuel system.

Last service was just done at 148486km and the fuel gauge started acting up shortly after. Just checked the codes again and getting P0461, which points to the fuel level sensor circuit. The readings jump between full and empty out of nowhere while driving. Your experience with the fuse makes sense since my fuel system warnings started showing up suddenly. Will check the fuse box connections first before going deeper into fuel sensor diagnostics. Does anyone know the exact fuse number for the fuel level sensor circuit on these newer VW models? The intermittent stalling really needs addressing soon as its becoming a safety concern during city driving.

Based on my experience with the T-Cross, the fuel level sensor circuit uses fuse number 27 in the main fuse box. After my earlier fuse replacement fix, I learned these car electronics can act up in similar ways even with different root causes. In your case, the P0461 code specifically indicates a fuel level sensor range issue, which could be more than just a blown fuse. Since your symptoms appeared after a service, its worth checking if the fuel tank wiring harness was accidentally disturbed during maintenance. With that mileage, another possibility is corrosion at the sensor connector. My mechanic showed me that moisture can seep into the connector over time, causing similar erratic readings. The faulty sensor signals can definitely trigger those stalling issues youre experiencing. A quick test you can do: tap gently on the fuel tank while someone monitors the gauge. If the readings fluctuate with tapping, its likely a worn level sensor rather than just a fuse problem. The repair might involve replacing the complete sensor assembly, but its better than risking continued stalling issues.

Thanks for the follow-up info about my Nivus issue. After checking fuse 27 it turns out there was visible corrosion on the terminals. Cleaned the connections and replaced the fuse but still getting those unusual fuel gauge fluctuations and occasional stalling. Did the tap test you suggested on the fuel tank and the gauge definitely jumps around when tapping. Think youre right about this being more than just a fuse problem. The P0461 sensor fault is still showing up in the diagnostic readings. Given the high mileage and symptoms appearing right after the service, makes sense that the fuel level sensor might need replacement. Seems like the service work could have disturbed an already weak connection. Going to book it in at the workshop this week to get the complete sensor assembly checked. Not worth risking more stalling episodes in traffic. Will update once I know if replacing the faulty sensor sorts out both the gauge readings and engine stalling issues.
