VW Passat Hybrid Audio System Goes Completely Silent

My VW Passat Hybrid 2016 (15387km) suddenly has radio silence, no sound from any audio source. Even with volume control at max, there is no output through speakers. The Bluetooth issue persists even after restarting the car. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so I am looking for advice before taking it in somewhere. Has anyone experienced similar sound distortion or complete audio failure? What was the cause and repair cost in your case?

Had the same audio connectivity problem on my VW Golf e-Hybrid 2019. Initially noticed radio silence across all sources, USB audio, Bluetooth, and FM. The head unit displayed normally but produced zero output regardless of volume settings. After inspection at the workshop, they found a failed amplifier module in the sound system. The issue was not just a blown fuse or loose connection, the amp had completely failed due to a manufacturing defect. This was considered a serious electrical system fault that required replacing the entire amplifier unit. The sound quality came back immediately after the repair. No issues with any audio source since then. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Removal of trunk panels to access the amplifier, Installation of new OEM amplifier module, System reset and testing This type of complete audio failure is somewhat common in VW models from that generation. Would suggest having it properly diagnosed rather than attempting DIY fixes, as the amplifier is integrated with other vehicle systems. The original problem sounds very similar to what you describe, sudden loss of all audio output while display functions remain normal. Worth checking if your vehicle is still under any extended warranty coverage before proceeding with repairs.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the amplifier replacement. Mine is showing identical symptoms with complete radio silence and no sound output. Really helpful to know it was the amp module in your case. Can you remember roughly what the total repair cost came to? Also curious if youve had any recurring audio connectivity or sound quality problems since getting it fixed? I might be dealing with the same fault but want to get an idea of costs before heading to the workshop.

The amplifier replacement completely resolved the audio issues in my VW Golf. After paying 280€ for repairs, which included fixing a defective bass speaker they discovered during diagnostics, the sound system works perfectly now. The car speakers deliver crisp audio through all sources, whether using Bluetooth, USB audio, or regular radio. Since the repair three months ago, volume control and audio connectivity have remained stable with no recurring problems. The workshop did a thorough job testing all audio components before returning the car. The investment was worth it to restore full functionality to the sound system. Your symptoms match exactly what I experienced, so it sounds like youre dealing with the same underlying amplifier fault. Getting it properly diagnosed and repaired by qualified technicians is the way to go for a lasting fix.

Finally got my car back from the repair shop today. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the amplifier module causing the radio silence, just like your case. Total bill came to 320€ including diagnostic fees and parts replacement. The repair process went smoothly, they had the car for just one day. The sound system is working perfectly now across all sources. Car speakers are delivering clear audio again and the Bluetooth issue is completely resolved. They also did a thorough check of all audio connectivity components while they had it open. Really glad I asked here first, knowing what to expect made the whole process less stressful. Also found a much better mechanic this time who explained everything clearly and charged a fair price. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped me make an informed decision about the repairs.
