Thanks for sharing that experience with the Arteon MAF sensor replacement. Dealing with similar issues on my Passat at the moment. The performance decline and rough idle match exactly what you described. Getting it checked out next week, the mechanic mentioned it could be either the mass air flow sensor or a clogged air filter. Mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since the fix? Want to make sure Im prepared for all possibilities when I take it in.

Since getting the MAF sensor replaced on my Arteon, the performance has been flawless. The repair totaled 365€, which included parts and labor. The mechanic found that the mass air flow meter was indeed defective, just as they initially suspected. The fuel economy returned to normal immediately after the fix, and the check engine light hasnt come back on. The engine now runs smoothly at idle, and the acceleration issues are completely resolved. No more smoke during acceleration either. The repair was worth every cent considering how the faulty readings were affecting overall engine performance. For preventive maintenance, I now make sure to check the air filter more frequently to avoid similar MAF sensor issues in the future. Just make sure your mechanic thoroughly tests the new sensor after installation, proper calibration is crucial for optimal performance. Based on my experience, this should resolve all the symptoms youre experiencing with your Passat.

Took my Passat to the shop this morning, and the diagnosis confirmed exactly what was discussed, a faulty MAF sensor. The repair process was surprisingly quick and efficient. The mechanic walked me through the issues, showing how the contaminated sensor was causing the air-fuel ratio problems and poor fuel economy. The total came to 340€, slightly less than expected. They cleaned the entire air intake system, replaced the mass air flow sensor, and recalibrated everything. The check engine light turned off immediately after the fix. Really glad I got this sorted quickly. The engine now idles perfectly, and the fuel economy has already improved noticeably on the drive home. No more smoke during acceleration either. Planning to stick to a stricter maintenance schedule going forward to prevent similar sensor failure issues. Thanks again for the advice, your experience helped me approach the repair with more confidence and knowledge about what to expect.

Had similar symptoms with my 2019 VW Arteon Hybrid last month. The mass air flow sensor failure was causing incorrect air-fuel ratio readings, leading to the exact issues you describe, poor fuel economy, rough idle, and engine stalling. Initial diagnosis confirmed contamination on the sensor element, affecting airflow measurements. The smoke during acceleration typically indicates the engine running rich due to faulty MAF readings. This is quite serious since incorrect air-fuel mixture can damage the catalytic converter over time. The repair involved: Thorough cleaning of the air intake system, Complete replacement of the mass air flow sensor, Resetting the engine control module, Testing to verify proper air-fuel ratio After replacement, fuel economy improved significantly and the engine stalling issues disappeared completely. The repair was straightforward but essential to prevent further engine damage. The check engine light cleared immediately after the fix. This is a common issue with VW hybrids from that generation, particularly when the air filter maintenance schedule isnt strictly followed. Would recommend getting it checked soon to avoid potential long-term engine complications.
