Thanks for sharing your Arteon experience. My Passat is at 132697km with the last service done in August. The error codes showing now are P0705 and P0722. The transmission problems started quite suddenly during highway driving without any warning signs. No previous transmission repairs have been done since the car was new. I checked my warranty coverage and luckily the powertrain warranty is still valid. Going to schedule a workshop visit next week, but wanted to check if replacing the transmission control module is likely needed in my case too. The 1000€ repair cost you mentioned helps set expectations if it ends up not being covered.

Based on those error codes and symptoms, it does sound very similar to what my Arteon experienced. The P0705 and P0722 codes typically point to transmission control unit issues, especially when combined with the sudden onset of gearbox problems you described. The mileage on your Passat is actually close to where my transmission problems started. Since your powertrain warranty is still active, definitely push for them to check the transmission control module first. In my case, the control unit failure was causing similar electronic issues with erratic shifting and sensor malfunctions. The workshop should follow a similar diagnostic process they used on my car: Full electronic system scan, Transmission fluid level and quality check, Testing the transmission control unit signals, Checking wiring connections for any damage With the warranty coverage, you should be spared the repair costs I faced. But if for some reason its not covered, the 1000€ figure remains fairly standard for this type of transmission repair involving control unit replacement. Would be interested to hear what the workshop finds. The matching error codes and similar gearbox issues strongly suggest you are dealing with the same transmission control unit problem I had.

Thanks for the detailed insight on your Arteon repair experience. Going to schedule a workshop visit next week for proper transmission diagnosis. The error codes you mentioned align exactly with mine, so I suspect the transmission control module may need replacement in my case too. The 1000€ repair cost you mentioned helps set expectations if it ends up not being covered under warranty. Will update once the workshop completes their transmission control system check and determines if a control module replacement is needed. Hopefully the warranty covers it, but at least I now have a better understanding of the likely repair process and potential costs involved.

Having experienced something very similar with my 2020 VW Arteon Hybrid, I can share my troubleshooting journey. With some experience working on modern hybrid vehicles, I recognize these symptoms immediately. The transmission control issues you describe match exactly what I encountered, erratic gear changes, unresponsive paddle shifters, and eventually the emergency mode activation. After multiple electronic issues appeared, the workshop conducted a thorough diagnostic of the automatic gearbox system. The workshop identified that the transmission control unit was defective and needed replacement. The entire diagnostic and repair process took about 3 days, costing approximately 1000€ including parts and labor. The repair completely resolved all gearbox issues and the car has been running perfectly since then. Before suggesting specific solutions for your case, could you share: Current mileage on your Passat, Specific error codes showing up, When was the last transmission fluid change, Any previous transmission-related repairs, Whether the issues started gradually or suddenly This information would help determine if your case might need a similar fix or requires a different approach with the automotive ECU system.
