Thanks for sharing your experience with the radio interference issue. The symptoms you described match exactly what happened with my Phaeton. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the complete repair? And has the fix held up well since then? No issues with vehicle electronics or signal strength afterwards? Also wondering if they found any additional problems while doing the work? Sometimes when they get into the headliner they discover other components that need attention.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. Yes, I took my Touareg to get the radio reception issues fixed last month and it cost 255€ total. The FM signal is now crystal clear with no static or interference. The repair has completely resolved all the problems with poor signal and error messages. The technician actually did a thorough check of all vehicle electronics while the headliner was removed. The signal amplifier and antenna connections were the only components that needed attention. The original antenna booster was indeed defective, just as I suspected. The radio now works flawlessly, no more static, dropped signals, or system errors. Getting proper diagnosis and repair was definitely worth it to restore full functionality to the infotainment system. One interesting point: they mentioned these antenna issues are fairly common in VW models from that era as the original signal amplifier components tend to degrade over time. But once replaced, they typically last for many years without problems.

After dealing with those annoying static noise and radio interference problems, I finally took my Phaeton to a certified repair shop last week. The service cost came to 380€, which included the new antenna booster and labor for accessing everything behind the headliner. The mechanic showed me the old antenna amplifier which had obvious corrosion damage affecting the FM signal reception. They also found and fixed some loose ground connections while they were in there. The whole repair took about 3 hours. Now the radio works perfectly, no more error messages or static noise. The sound quality is actually better than I remember it being when the car was newer. Really glad I got this sorted instead of continuing to deal with poor reception and system errors. For anyone else facing similar issues, definitely worth getting it properly diagnosed rather than trying quick fixes. The car radio is working like new and the repair shop did a clean job with no damage to the headliner or surrounding trim.

Had the same static noise issue on my 2013 VW Touareg TDI. After checking the antenna ground carefully, discovered the antenna booster unit had failed. The signal strength was dropping out of nowhere, causing those error messages and static bursts. The problem required removing the headliner to access the antenna amplifier module. Several connectors and ground points also needed cleaning due to corrosion building up over time. The main antenna booster was completely dead and needed replacement. This is typically not a DIY fix since accessing the components requires special tools and proper diagnostic equipment to confirm signal strength levels. The repair involves testing multiple connection points and potentially replacing several components of the antenna system. While not the most expensive repair, it needs proper diagnosis as similar symptoms can come from: Faulty antenna connections, Damaged signal amplifier, Corroded ground points, Failed antenna booster module, Loose connector pins Getting this fixed properly the first time prevents recurring issues. The static noise and error messages will only get worse if left unaddressed.
