VW Polo Turn Signal Warning Light Troubleshooting

My Polo is showing error messages on the dash and in the error memory related to lighting. When checking, I noticed the front turn indicator light seems to be acting up. Previous mechanic visits left me skeptical, so I want to verify if this could be just a simple signal lamp issue before heading back. Has anyone experienced similar warning messages with their indicator lights? For reference: VW Polo 2007, Diesel, 54177km.

Had a similar issue with my 2010 VW Golf TDI. The turn signal started flickering irregularly and triggered dashboard warnings. Initially thought it was just a bulb replacement needed, but diagnostic testing revealed corroded connectors in the main automotive lighting harness. The front turn signal assembly had moisture damage that spread to the wiring. The repair involved cleaning the connector terminals and replacing a section of the damaged wiring harness. Not a complex fix, but required proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact connection point causing the intermittent signal. The broken lens seal was letting moisture reach the bulb socket, causing the connection issues. Worth checking your signal lamp housing for any small cracks or deteriorated seals. These seemingly minor defects often lead to electrical gremlins in the lighting system. In your case, while the symptoms match, always start with the simplest fix, check if the bulb itself is properly seated and the connector is clean. If problems persist after a bulb replacement, have a professional check the wiring connections, as damaged harnesses can cause cascading electrical issues. Based on experience, these indicator problems rarely fix themselves and usually worsen if left unchecked.

Thanks for describing the repair process. You actually eased my concerns since I just got similar diagnostic codes on my Polo. Just checked and found moisture inside the turn indicator housing too. Going to start with a simple bulb replacement before digging deeper into potential wiring issues. Did you remember roughly how much the full electrical fault repair cost in your case? And has the turn signal behaved properly since fixing those corroded connections, or did you notice any other lighting problems pop up?

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. Just got back from having my indicator light fixed at the shop actually. The electrical problem with my turn signal was thankfully less severe than initially feared. The mechanic found a faulty cable connection in the lighting assembly that was causing the irregular blinking. Total repair came to 95€ including labor, much better than replacing the entire wiring harness. The signal lamp has worked flawlessly since the repair. No more dashboard warnings or erratic indicator behavior. The technician also applied some protective sealant around the housing to prevent future moisture issues. If your Polo has similar symptoms, definitely have them check the connections first before replacing major components. Since fixing that loose connection in the turn signal assembly six months ago, all lighting systems have functioned normally. Much simpler fix than my initial worries about extensive electrical problems. Worth having a professional diagnose it properly rather than just swapping bulbs when moisture damage is involved.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Just wanted to close the loop on my indicator light situation. Took the Polo to my mechanic yesterday after getting your input. They found moisture damage like you mentioned and some corrosion in the wiring connections. The flasher relay also needed replacement since it was affected by the water intrusion. Total repair came to 140€, they replaced the signal lamp assembly, cleaned all connections, and installed new seals to prevent future moisture problems. The turn signal now works perfectly and all dashboard warnings have cleared. Much better outcome than my previous repair attempts. Really glad I asked here first instead of just throwing parts at the problem. The systematic approach of checking connections and seals before replacing major components saved both time and money. No more erratic blinking or error messages to worry about.
