VW Scirocco Audio System Goes Dead, All Sources Silent

Thanks for sharing those details about your Golf issue. My Scirocco just started working again after being dead for 3 days, exactly as you described with that total radio silence across all inputs. The Bluetooth issue resolved itself but I am worried it might happen again. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the amplifier replacement cost you? Also wondering if you had any audio connectivity problems since the repair was done? Just want to be prepared in case my temporary fix does not last and I end up needing the same repair on my VW.

Great to share my repair experience. Since having the blown amplifier replaced, the audio system has worked flawlessly with zero sound distortion or Bluetooth issues. The USB audio and auxiliary input connections are all functioning perfectly too. Just had my repair bill checked, the total came to 280€ for replacing the defective bass speaker. The sound quality is actually better than before since they discovered the speaker was slowly failing over time before it completely died. Your temporary fix suggests a loose connection or similar intermittent fault. Based on my experience, these audio connectivity problems rarely fix themselves permanently. Would recommend getting it checked while it is still working so they can properly diagnose any developing issues. This helps avoid being stuck without a working sound system again. The investment was worth it for reliable audio performance. No more worrying about sudden audio system failures during drives.

Thanks for the advice. Took my Scirocco to a different mechanic this time who instantly recognized the intermittent sound system problem. Turns out the volume control module had a damaged connector causing the unusual audio failures. Total repair came to 180€ which included cleaning all connections and replacing the faulty wiring. The sound quality is perfect now and my Bluetooth connectivity works reliably again. Car speakers are pumping out crystal clear audio like new. Much better experience with this garage, they showed me exactly what was wrong and fixed it same day. No more radio silence issues since the repair. Really glad I asked here first and got useful insights before choosing where to take it. Definitely learned my lesson about getting a second opinion when dealing with car electronics. The previous mechanic wanted to replace the entire sound system which would have cost way more.

Had the exact same issue on my 2011 VW Golf GTI. The sound system went completely silent despite all displays working normally. After troubleshooting, it turned out the amplifier unit under the driver seat had failed completely. Main symptoms matched yours: All audio sources dead, Display functioning normally, No auxiliary input response, Volume control working but no actual sound The root cause was a blown amplifier module that required full replacement. This is a known weak point in VW audio systems from that era. The car speakers themselves were fine, but without proper signal amplification, no sound could reach them. The repair involved: Full diagnostic scan, Removing seats to access the amplifier, Installing new amplifier unit, Recoding the audio system It was a significant repair that needed specialized tools and dealer-level diagnostic equipment. Not something easily fixed at home since it requires proper system configuration after replacement. Worth checking your fuses first, but if those are good, prepare for potential amplifier replacement. The issue needs proper diagnosis since audio connectivity problems can stem from multiple components in the sound system chain.
