VW Scirocco Climate Control Failure, HVAC Sensor Issues

My VW Scirocco (2012, gas, 73572km) has climate regulation issues that are driving me nuts. The auto temp control stopped working completely and the AC wont turn on. The warning light is showing a stored error code. Last mechanic visit was pretty disappointing, so I suspect they missed checking the HVAC sensor properly. Has anyone dealt with similar climate issues, particularly with the interior temperature sensor? Looking for recommendations on trusted shops that actually know how to handle sensor diagnostics.

The climate control failure symptoms match what happened on my VW Golf GTI 2015. The temperature reading was erratic and the HVAC sensor stopped communicating with the climate control unit completely. The root cause turned out to be a damaged wiring harness connecting the temperature sensor to the main control module. The wire insulation had worn through near a sharp edge in the dashboard, causing intermittent shorts. This triggered the stored error codes and disabled the automatic temperature control system. The repair required removing part of the dashboard to access the temperature sensor wiring. The damaged section needed complete replacement since wire repairs in that area are not reliable long-term. It was a significant job taking several hours but not technically complex for a shop familiar with VW climate control systems. Key diagnostic steps included: Testing the temperature sensor resistance values, Checking voltage at the control module connection, Verifying the ground circuit integrity, Inspecting the full length of the sensor wiring harness This is a known weak point in VW models from that generation. Getting it diagnosed correctly the first time requires proper testing of the entire temperature control circuit, not just checking error codes.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My car had almost identical symptoms, faulty climate regulation and the same error codes. I was wondering if the repair costs were similar too? Would you mind sharing what you paid? Also, has everything worked properly since the fix or have you noticed any other climate control quirks? My mechanic also mentioned the HVAC sensor wiring being a common failure point on these models. Having the full diagnostic process you outlined really helped me understand what I should expect from a proper inspection of the climate issues.

After getting my VW diagnosed properly, the sensor diagnostics revealed a simpler fix than expected. The faulty interior temperature sensor was restored by repairing a loose cable connection, total cost was 95€. Much more reasonable than initially feared. The temperature control system has worked flawlessly since the repair. The climate issues disappeared completely once the proper connection was restored. No more erratic temperature readings or system failures. The automatic climate control responds perfectly now, just like when the car was new. Getting a thorough sensor replacement evaluation from a knowledgeable shop made all the difference. They specifically traced the problem to the connector rather than just swapping parts. This type of focused diagnostics saved both time and money compared to my previous unsuccessful repair attempts. Worth noting that while wiring harness issues are common, sometimes the fix can be as straightforward as resolving a faulty connection. Having a technician who knows where to look for these specific temperature control problems is key.

Thanks everyone for the help. I took my Scirocco to a different shop last week that specializes in VW electrical systems. They did a complete temperature sensor diagnostic and found the exact same wiring issue near the dashboard. The repair cost came to 180€ including parts and labor. Higher than just a connection fix, but they had to replace a section of the damaged harness. The climate control is working perfectly now, the automatic temperature regulation responds correctly and the AC blows cold again. Such a relief after months of dealing with the problem. The mechanic showed me the worn spot in the old wiring where it had been rubbing against the dash bracket. Makes sense why the previous shop missed it since they only scanned for codes without doing proper temperature control diagnostics. At least now I know what to watch for if any other climate issues pop up. Having someone who actually knew how to trace these sensor problems made all the difference.
