VW Scirocco Oil Sensor Failure Troubleshooting Guide

Had a similar situation on my 2012 VW Golf GTI. The engine sensor problems started with intermittent oil pressure warnings, followed by multiple warning lights on the dash. The root cause was actually a faulty connection between the oil temp sensor and its wiring harness. Corrosion had built up in the connector, causing inconsistent readings. The engine temperature readings were also fluctuating due to this issue. The repair involved: Cleaning the connector terminals, Replacing the damaged wiring section, Installing a new oil sensor unit, Clearing the fault codes, Testing under various operating conditions This was a relatively straightforward fix but could have led to serious engine damage if left unaddressed. The car sensor system on VWs is quite sensitive and interconnected, one failing component can trigger multiple warnings. Recommend having the entire sensor circuit tested, not just the oil temp sensor itself. Sometimes the problem lies in the wiring or connections rather than the actual sensor unit. Would get this checked soon, as inaccurate oil pressure readings could risk engine health.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Scirocco started showing the exact same symptoms last month. The car diagnostics also pointed to oil sensor issues. The automotive sensor system kept throwing warnings until I got it fixed. The temperature sensor replacement and wiring fix sorted it completely and the car runs perfectly now. Really glad to hear you caught it early too, as these issues can definitely escalate if ignored. Would you mind sharing what you paid for the repair? Also curious if youve had any other sensor-related problems since getting it fixed?

Glad to hear you got it resolved. The car diagnostics confirmed what I suspected, these temp sensor issues are pretty common on VWs. In my case, the total repair came to 95€, which mostly covered fixing the cable connection rather than replacing the whole oil temperature sensor unit. The repair has held up great with no further sensor problems for over 18 months now. The mechanic explained that the faulty engine oil temperature sensor was causing those erratic readings, but once they sorted the connection issues, all warning lights cleared up permanently. Key was finding a shop that properly diagnosed the root cause instead of just throwing parts at it. A loose or corroded connector can mimic a failed sensor, which is why proper car diagnostics are so important. The oil gauge now shows steady, accurate readings under all conditions.

Thanks for the advice. Just wanted to close the loop on my Scirocco situation. Finally got around to taking it to a new mechanic who actually knew what they were doing with car diagnostics. After running some tests, they found both wiring issues and a failing oil temp sensor. The repair cost came to 320€ total, a bit more than expected but worth it to have everything working properly again. The engine sensor system is now giving accurate readings and all warning lights have stayed off. The mechanic spent time explaining the whole diagnostic process and showed me the corroded wiring that was causing the problems. Much better experience than my previous shop that just wanted to replace unusual parts. The car runs perfectly now and the temp sensor readings are stable. For anyone else facing similar issues, definitely worth finding a shop that properly tests the entire sensor circuit rather than just swapping parts. Getting the right diagnosis saved me from potentially bigger problems down the road.
