VW Scirocco Stalling Issues, Failed Fuel Regulator Alert

Looking for advice, car keeps stalling and check engine light is on. My 2012 VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI at 132983km started acting up recently. Engine loses power, especially when idling, and sometimes stalls completely. Pretty sure it might be the fuel regulator playing up. Had some questionable work done at my last mechanic visit, so not too keen on going back there. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was your repair experience and rough cost? Need reliable mechanic recommendations for proper car maintenance and diagnosis.

Had similar issues with my 2015 VW Golf GTI TSI. The symptoms you describe match what happened, engine misfire, power loss, and stalling, particularly at idle. Car sensors showed multiple fault codes pointing to fuel delivery problems. The fuel regulator was initially suspected, but diagnostic testing revealed a failing high pressure fuel pump. This is a known weak point in these engines. The pump was unable to maintain proper fuel injection pressure, causing inconsistent fuel delivery. The repair required replacing the complete high pressure pump assembly and checking the entire fuel delivery system. This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention since it can lead to catalytic converter damage and increased fuel economy problems if left unchecked. The job took about 6 hours at the workshop. They also performed a full fuel system cleaning and ECU adaptation after the new pump installation to ensure everything worked correctly. These symptoms should not be ignored, continuous driving with a faulty high pressure pump can cause extensive engine damage. A proper diagnosis using manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment is essential for confirming the exact issue.

Thanks for sharing that detail about your Golf GTI. Your experience matches my automotive repair situation closely. After reading about your fuel injection system problems, I am wondering, do you remember roughly what it cost to get the high pressure pump replaced? Just trying to budget for my repair. Also curious if you have had any fuel efficiency issues or other problems since getting it fixed?

After getting the high pressure pump replaced for 1510€, my fuel efficiency actually improved significantly. The automotive repair shop also discovered and fixed a faulty fuel volume regulator during the diagnostic process, which was causing additional engine misfire issues. The car sensors are now showing normal readings and the engine performance is back to factory specifications. Have not experienced any fuel injection problems since the repair was completed 6 months ago. The investment was worth it, the car runs smoother, especially at idle, and fuel consumption has dropped notably. No more check engine lights or performance issues. If you are experiencing similar symptoms, getting it properly diagnosed and repaired sooner rather than later will help prevent more extensive engine damage.

Just got back from the mechanic who fixed my Scirocco. Based on your advice about the high pressure pump, I took it to a certified VW specialist. Good call on getting it checked quickly, turned out the fuel injection system was indeed the culprit. The rough idling and engine misfire issues were caused by a combination of a failing high pressure pump and clogged injectors. Total repair came to 1650€ including parts, labor, and a complete fuel system cleaning. Car sensors are all showing normal readings now. Really glad I didnt wait longer, mechanic showed me how the old pump was starting to damage other components. The check engine light is finally off and the car runs perfectly again, especially at idle. Fuel economy has improved too, probably saving me some money in the long run. Thanks for sharing your experience, helped me avoid a potentially bigger repair bill down the road.
