Thanks for the detailed response about the microphone and voice recognition issues. This sounds exactly like what I am experiencing with my Sharan. Did you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also curious if you had any recurring problems with the speech recognition or volume control since getting it fixed? I am especially concerned about moisture causing issues again since you mentioned corrosion. My car is parked outside most of the time which probably does not help with preventing future problems in the audio system.

Had the repair done last month and I am happy to report the hands-free system is working perfectly now. The ambient noise cancellation and voice recognition features are back to normal with excellent sound quality through the wireless connection. The total repair cost was 815€ which covered replacing the defective microphone unit and rewiring the audio input connections. While it was expensive, the Bluetooth issue has not returned and all audio functions are working as they should. For protecting against future moisture problems, the technician applied a special sealant around the new microphone assembly and connectors. Even with outdoor parking, this should prevent corrosion from affecting the sound quality or wireless connection reliability. The repair was definitely worth it, no more connection errors or speech recognition problems. The hands-free system now works flawlessly for calls and voice commands.

You are right, dealing with these Bluetooth issues can be frustrating but I finally got it sorted. After checking a few places, I found a certified VW workshop that properly diagnosed the problem. Like your case, they found corroded connections in the microphone assembly behind the headliner. The total cost came to 790€ for parts and labor. While not cheap, the volume control and voice recognition are working perfectly now after the repair. What really impressed me was how thorough they were in preventing future issues with the audio system. They used special moisture-resistant connectors and sealed everything properly. Even with my car being parked outside, the ambient noise cancelation and sound quality have remained excellent for the past 3 months. The Bluetooth connection is rock solid now and all the hands-free features work like new. No more error messages or connection drops. Definitely worth getting it fixed properly rather than trying cheaper alternatives that might not last.

As an owner of a 2012 VW Touran TDI who experienced similar Bluetooth issues, I can share my repair experience. The symptoms you describe match exactly what happened with my audio system. The wireless connection would fail, and speech recognition became completely non-responsive while regular audio functioned normally. The issue was traced to a failed microphone module in the overhead console, which also affected the entire voice recognition system. The repair required removing the headliner to access the microphone assembly. The technician found corrosion on the connector pins and a damaged wire harness leading to the control module. This explained why the Bluetooth issue appeared suddenly, moisture had gradually damaged the connections over time. The fix involved replacing both the microphone unit and the affected wiring harness. This was not a quick fix since accessing the components required significant interior disassembly. The most important step was testing the voice recognition and hands-free calling functionality after reassembly to ensure proper wireless connection. This is considered a moderate to serious repair due to the labor-intensive nature of accessing the components, though the parts themselves are not particularly expensive. These issues are relatively common in VW models from that generation once they age. Suggestion: Have a qualified technician perform a full diagnostic on the audio system and Bluetooth components before starting any repairs.
