Thanks for sharing your experience! I had nearly identical problems with my Sharan last winter, rough idle, check engine light, and engine misfire symptoms. Got it fixed with a full fuel system cleaning and sensor replacement. The car runs perfectly now, but I was wondering what your total repair costs were? Also, have you noticed any other issues popping up since the repair? My fuel pump readings have been steady for months, but always good to hear long-term feedback from others who went through similar repairs.

After the complete repair work on my Touran, the costs came to around 450€ including parts and labor. The fuel pressure regulator was indeed defective and needed replacement, which resolved most issues. Additionally, clearing the error codes after the new fuel filter installation cost 45€. Six months later, the fuel system continues working flawlessly. The fuel rail pressure remains consistent, and fuel pump readings show normal operation across all RPM ranges. No engine misfire incidents since the repair, and fuel consumption returned to factory specs. The early detection and fix likely prevented damage to other components like injectors or the high-pressure pump, which would have been significantly more expensive. Regular fuel system maintenance since then has kept everything running smoothly. Your experience matches what many VW owners discover, addressing fuel pressure issues promptly usually prevents cascading problems. The steady fuel pump readings you mention are a good sign that the repair was done correctly.

Thanks for the input. I finally took my Sharan to a repair shop last week. The total bill came to 520€, slightly more than expected but worth every cent. The mechanic found a failing fuel pressure regulator and some debris in the system, exactly as mentioned here. The repair process took about 4 hours. They performed a complete fuel system cleaning, replaced the pressure regulator, and installed a new filter. The check engine light disappeared immediately after the fix. No more rough idle or stalling issues since then. Most importantly, the power loss during acceleration is completely gone. The engine response feels like new again. Was hesitant about choosing this shop after my previous bad experience, but they did great work, showing me all the removed parts and explaining the problems they found. Keeping an eye on the fuel pump readings through my OBD scanner, and everything looks stable. Planning to do preventive maintenance more regularly now to avoid similar issues in the future. Really glad I asked here before going in blind.

Had similar symptoms with a 2017 VW Touran 2.0 TDI. The fuel system diagnostic showed a pressure drop in the fuel rail during acceleration, combined with irregular fuel pump readings at idle. Initially suspected the fuel pressure regulator too, but after testing it turned out the fuel filter replacement triggered a chain reaction. The new filter exposed existing debris in the fuel system that got dislodged and started circulating. This contamination affected the fuel rail pressure sensor and created erratic readings. The fix required: Complete fuel system cleaning, Replacement of fuel pressure sensor, Recalibration of the fuel pump, New genuine filter installation This was indeed a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as continued driving could have damaged the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors. The symptoms match your case, power loss during acceleration and stalling at idle are classic signs of fuel pressure problems. Recommend getting it checked soon, focusing on: Fuel rail pressure readings, Fuel pump performance test, Filter inspection for contamination, Sensor diagnostics These issues typically dont resolve themselves and can lead to more expensive repairs if left unchecked.
